ATTENTION: NYC EMPLOYERS
NYC'S Amended Paid Sick Leave Law is in Effect
ARE YOU READY?
Effective May 5, 2018 , New York City’s Earned Paid Sick Leave Law (also known as the NYC Paid Sick Leave Law) was amended in two significant ways:

  1. Covered reasons for leave now include “safe” leave; and
  2. Covered family members now include all individuals related “by blood to an employee” and individuals “whose close association to the employee is the equivalent of a family relationship.”
SAFE LEAVE

The amended law allows employees to use their paid leave if they or a family member have been the victim of any act or threat of domestic violence, unwanted sexual contact, stalking, or human trafficking in order to plan their next steps and focus on safety without fear of penalty.
FAMILY MEMBER

The amended law expands the definition of covered family members, for both sick and safe time, to include “any other individuals related by blood to an employee” or “any other individual whose close association with the employee is the equivalent of a family relationship.”
