Hello, TOSA Youth Tri Families!

We are looking forward to seeing you! The 2025 TOSA Youth Tri will take place in two weeks, on Saturday, August 9th. Please review the following items with your athlete:

1.   Map Course: There will be volunteers along the course to guide your athlete, but athletes are expected to understand the course.

2.  2025 FAQs: This provides a great overview of how our tri works and highlights conduct that can result in a DQ - so look this over!

3. Supplemental Youth Rules: Follow the link for USAT rules and scroll down to the last 3 pages. These rules are in place to keep the course safe and fair.

WE STILL NEED VOLUNTEERS: We are still looking to fill 20-30 volunteer positions. Parents and older siblings - we need your help to make this event fun and safe. You will be able to watch your athlete on the course when it is their time to go. Please consider signing up HERE to help. All volunteers will receive a $10 gift card to use at TOSA Pool or The Landing beer garden.

Check your equipment now: Be sure your athlete has a swimsuit and goggles that fit. Check that their bike is in good working condition. Their helmet should fit well. Ask them to practice putting on their shoes. Be sure they are comfortable biking and running in these.

Athlete Check-In and Packet Pick Up is Friday, August 8th. Please come to the Grand Hall at TOSA Pool any time between 8:00 am and 8:00 pm. Each athlete needs to come with a parent or guardian with ID. DO NOT bring your bike and helmet until race day on Saturday.

Athletes will receive a race T-shirt, a numbered bib with matching stickers for their bike and helmet, and a TOSA Youth Tri BAG. Please attach the bib to the FRONT of the T-shirt and take the stickers home to place on your bike and helmet. Your athlete will also receive a race “tattoo” with bib number and age on their arms and legs.

ON RACE DAY: Athletes, wear your swimsuit, goggles, and optional swim cap. Bring your bike and helmet with stickers applied, your T-shirt with the attached bib, and your shoes. A small towel, shorts, and socks are optional. Don’t bring anything you don’t plan to use on the course, including flip-flops. Everything must fit inside the bag.

Please note the transition process.  Parents, hold onto your athlete’s bike and helmet in the grassy area behind the Adirondack chairs while your athlete completes the swim. Head to the transition area by the umbrellas while they change into their shirt and shoes. Hand the bike and helmet to your athlete and take their bag as they head out the back gate towards the parkway to complete the bike segment. Bike racks will be positioned near the gate so that athletes may store their bikes while completing the run.

PARKING: Parking for athletes’ families will be available in the parking lot at Hoyt Park. The Menomonee River Parkway will be closed to traffic. Enter the pool area at the west gate, nearest to the parking lot.

TIMING: Athletes will wear an ankle bracelet with an embedded chip timer. These will be handed out at the information booth. There will be timing wires throughout the course keeping track of athletes’ times spent in each area: swim, transitions, bike and run. These split times will be reported, but only the START and FINISH times are used to determine place. Time spent in transition counts towards the total finish time. This is standard for triathlons.

STAGING: FUN athletes will run first, youngest to oldest. CHALLENGE athletes will run next. Arrive about 15 minutes before your scheduled warm-up time. Each athlete will have their own lane for the swim.

Spectators are reminded to stay off the course. This is a USAT rule. Parents are invited to watch their athletes swim from the grassy area behind the Adirondack chairs next to the pool. After you’ve handed off the bike, exit from the pool area and go to the Landing to wait for your athlete’s finish.

BIKE PICK-UP: Please retrieve your bike from the racks near the transition area as soon as your athlete has completed the run. Bring your tattooed athlete or their bib to claim their bike. We ask that you take the bike back to your vehicle in the parking lot, walking around the south side of the pool (by the train tracks) to avoid athletes still completing the course.

AWARDS: Medals will be awarded to the top three CHALLENGE finishers in each age/gender group. Results will be posted for all athletes at the conclusion of each wave. An awards ceremony will take place at the conclusion of the race at The Landing.

Please remember that this event is meant to be FUN. Fun for our athletes, their families, and our volunteers. Spectators are encouraged to make signs and cheer on their athletes. Be prepared on race day. Be positive and PLEASE be courteous to the athletes, our volunteers, and to each other.
The buttons below link to our volunteer registration, our event website with course maps, rules, and information about registering and volunteering, and a FAQ document to help answer many of the common questions we hear about the event.

We’ll send out an e-mail next weekend with final race day details, so stay tuned. Thank you for helping make this event so much fun for our kids.
