What we want for others

they want it for themselves

Good Morning,

It's the old adage "you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink".  We, as people are much like that horse.  If we aren't really committed to doing something, we won't do it.  This is particularly true with behavior or lifestyle changes.  For many of us it is the fear of the unknown.  For others, it is the fear of failure.  Many are afraid of change.  As my mom used to say "You get used to hanging if you hang long enough".

We can give others knowledge, we can use our logic, we can encourage but we can't force them to change.  Putting the proverbial gun to someone's head may produce compliance but no commitment.  Back off the gun and they will return to the old ways.

Our only chance for real change is our ability let them see for themselves the true benefits of change and then supporting them along the way.  Let's also remember, before we point fingers, we should look in the mirror.  The them is us when we need to make changes.  It is a two way street.
