Aubrey's wish gets her into hot water

Aubrey is a bright, beautiful young lady who is living with a rare form of Huntington’s disease. Every day she goes through a vigorous regime of exercises, acupuncture therapy, and holistic and Chinese medicine. She visits her neurologist every six months: speech, movement and eating are slower for her and although she accomplishes many tasks on her own, she needs assistance with more complex movements. After visiting her uncle and joining her cousins in their hot tub, Aubrey knew what she wanted to wish for: her very own oasis at home.

Aubrey was surprised on her 17^th birthday when she stepped out onto the deck at her home and saw a hot tub while her surrounding family shouted “surprise!” Grinning from ear to ear she only had one thing to say: “I love it.” Thanks to a wish assist from Beachcomber Hot Tubs in Sherwood Park, Aubrey will be able to float away whenever she wants.

“We needed a break away from everyday treatment for Aubrey to do something just for her,” said her mom. “Everyone’s worked so hard for this. Thank you so much for everything you’ve done. She can’t wait to jump in!”

Nothing brings hope like the promise of a wish.

Planning an event in our new COVID world

Donor events are a great way to raise money for non-profits: you take your talents and ideas and turn them into a chance to give back, all on your schedule. Our new COVID environment has made it difficult to plan events though, and not everyone has the means or the desire to take their event online. If you'd like to plan an event to benefit Make-A-Wish, here are a few ways to make it work:

Take it outside

The folks who plan the annual Valleyview Cup hockey tournament had to cancel their plans this year. But they turned instead to a golf tournament and raised $14,000. Plan for the weather, and outdoor events can be successful year round.

Check with your sponsors

When our Make-A-Wish Golf Classic was postponed, our sponsors gave to us anyway ad raised $103,000. Ask the people interested in your event if they'd be willing to donate their sponsorship commitment.

Take it off the top

The Dwight Streu Real Estate Team donates a portion of their commission from every house they sell, and has raised $11,950. Find out if your workplace is interested in corporate giving and how you can help.

More ways to make wishes happen

Now more than ever, the world needs the promise of a wish. Currently there are over 340 children in Northern Alberta waiting for their wish to come true. We need to ensure that when the world is ready, these kids don't wait even one extra day for their wish. Here are more ways you can get involved.
