Sotheby's Hong Kong: Magnificent?
|
|
Of the first fifty lots with the highest selling estimates, over half went unsold! And of the remainder, six hammered at less than low estimate while only a small handful reached the highest.
That said, there really were some magnificent jewels. Unfortunately for their owners, they came to the house during a fluctuating economy.

Sri Lanka Gem and Jewellery Sector
Calls for More Liberalised Environment
to Unleash Full Potential

|
- Advocates for reduction in current regulations, which act as a major impediment to boosting gem exports
Daily Mirror Online

Industry stakeholders highlighted that Sri Lanka possesses immense potential to serve as a hub for gem and jewellery in the South Asia region. However, achieving this position necessitates the creation of a conducive environment by the authorities.
“We are looking to increase our exports and for that we are expecting the State to facilitate us. It should be one in such a way that we (industry stakeholders and government) work hand in hand,” said Altaf Iqbal, (right) Chairman of FACETS 2024 gem and jewellery exhibition, which is scheduled to take place from January 6 to 8, 2024.

Seven-year-old Aspen Brown, of Paragould, Arkansas, visited Crater of Diamonds State Park in Murfreesboro on Sept. 1 and left with a 2.95-carat golden brown diamond. Centurion News Daily
King of Prussia, PA – Hedda Schupak, whose impact in the jewelry industry was monumental on both a professional and personal level, died Tuesday morning after a two-year battle with lung cancer. She was 62.
Schupak spent nearly her entire career in the jewelry industry and almost all of those years as an editor for publications within the industry.
She spent 23 years at JCK, beginning as a production editor and rising through the ranks as a fashion editor until she became editor-in-chief of the publication in 2000, where she stayed until 2009.

Roskin Gem News Report
Those of us who worked with Hedda at JCK kept in touch after the financial crisis of 2009 when most of us went our separate ways.
We would see each other at trade shows, sometimes catching up at lunch in King of Prussia, or a random email about some trade news or local happening.
We are all still connected.
Which makes her sudden passing all the more shocking.
