Congratulations to Medina Girl Scout Maddie Beck, who created Medina's Melody Garden in the SustainEd Community Garden at 302 E. Liberty Street. The garden is intended for children's enjoyment while their parents garden and was part of Maddie's Silver Award project for Girl Scout Troop 91370.

Anne of the Green Gables This Weekend
The Wadsworth High School's Off Broad Street Players are presenting the play, Anne of the Green Gables this weekend in the James R. McIllvane Performing Arts Center at Wadsworth High School, 625 Broad St.

The play will be performed Thursday and Friday, Oct. 28 and 29, at 7 p.m. with a matinee at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children K-6th grade.

Ohio Regional Music Arts and Cultural Outreach (ORMACO) and Friends of the Wadsworth Public Library present the Fall 2021 World Tour of Music culminating concert featuring Alla Boara on Saturday, Oct. 30, at 8 p.m. at O.J. Work Auditorium, 151 Main Street, in Wadsworth.

Alla Boara seeks to bring recognition and new life to Italy’s diverse history of regional folk music. Their modern arrangements of near-extinct folk songs such as lullabies, laments, hymns, and festival songs are variously surprising, playful, mournful, tender, and bewitching. Alongside projected visual images from researcher Alan Lomax’s Italian field recordings,
Alla Boara’s dynamic work aims to inspire audiences of all ethnic heritages to treasure their musical roots and consider historical songs’ contemporary cultural relevance. Vision of drummer and composer Anthony Taddeo (Helen Welch/Hey Mavis), Alla Boara also features vocalist Amanda Powell (Apollo’s Fire), guitarist Dan Bruce (Beta Collective), trumpeter Tommy Lehman (Acid Cats), bassist Ian Kinnamon, and accordionist and keyboardist Clay Colley (KOBA).

Currently finishing their first record, Alla Boara has received critical acclaim for its originality and accessibility and was recently featured in La Gazzetta Italiana and predicted to have a bright future by Cleveland Magazine.

Art with a Heart Children's Auction and Benefit Coming Up
You can help abused, neglected and exploited children in our community while enjoying a night celebrating local artists at the 7th Annual Art With a Heart for Children Auction & Benefit. 

The event will be at Blue Heron Event Center on Thursday, November 4, with the Art Preview, Silent Auction, Cocktails, Music and Appetizers beginning at 5:30 p.m. The Live Auction will begin at 7 p.m. Event registration is $60 per person. Please register by Thursday, Oct. 28. Go HERE to register.

A variety of original art will be on display and available for auction. The selection will include pieces from local community artists including Medina County Juvenile Detention Center's Art Experience students. Proceeds to benefit The Children's Center of Medina County with a portion designated for the Medina County Juvenile Detention Center to fund continued art therapy for detained youth.

  • The Medina County Park District is hosting Howl-o-Ween at Oenslager Nature Center, 6100 Ridge Rd. in Sharon Center, on Saturday, Oct. 30 from 1 to 3 p.m. but registration for the event closes on Oct. 28.This program is all bark and no bite.   • Majestic Meadows Alpacas Trick or Treat will be held from Oct. 29-31 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Younger trick-or-treaters can spend the day with daytime trick-or-treating and other activities.   • Medina County Park District will host the not-so-scary Spooktacular Weekends Oct. 30 and 31at Hambley Nature Center, 1473 Parschen Blvd. in Brunswick. The nature center will be decorated for kid-friendly Halloween. Learn about some of our favorite misunderstood Halloween animals from creepy and crawly to slithery and slimy. Costumes are welcome. Holiday Toy Donation Drive Slated for Nov. 6
Medina County Job and Family Services is holding a holiday toy drive to collect toys for children in foster care. We are accepting new, unwrapped toys for children of all ages. We are also accepting gift cards for our older children and teens.

Toy collection will take place Saturday, Nov. 6 from 9 a.m. to noon at Medina County Job and Family Services, 232 Northland Drive, Medina. Volunteers will be available to unload cars for contactless drop-off.

Each registrant will be limited to a five-foot by five-foot space in which to display his/her artwork. Setup will occur between Nov. 3 and 7. Brunswick Kid City Gets Facelift

BRUNSWICK - Opened in the summer of 2016 as a playground replicating the cityscape of Brunswick itself, Kid City was ready for a sprucing-up this week.

Brunswick Parks and Recreation Director Taylor Petkovsek said the miniature village of roads, traffic signs and replicas of Brunswick businesses located next to the Brunswick Recreation Center, 3637 Center Road, was the brainchild of Willetts Middle School art teacher Kelly Harrison and former Parks and Recreation Director John Piepsny.

Medina County Police Warn Residents of Prowler in Black Car

 Police in Medina County are warning parents about a man passing through neighborhoods in his car and acting suspiciously around children.

The suspect’s car, described as a black Dodge Challenger with a silver gas cap and damage to the driver side back bumper, has been on the radar of law-enforcement agencies for the past six months because of the unusual behavior of the man behind the wheel.

Half-million dollar allotment approved for Metro Housing

Half a million dollars in federal American Rescue Plan funds will go toward Medina Metropolitan Housing Authority's construction of permanent homes for homeless residents living with disabilities.

The allotment was approved Tuesday by Medina County Commissioners. Plans call for 10 supportive housing units on Lafayette Road near Independence Drive that organizers hope to break ground on by next spring, said Medina Metropolitan Housing Authority director Skip Sipos.
