NEWS AROUND THE COUNTY

Local artist and museum owner shows work at Medina Library

MEDINA - Local artist Elizabeth Gierosky creates pieces inspired by folk art from our continent and around the world.
Gierosky, of York Township, debuted several works Monday when her new exhibit opened at the Medina Library.
"I'm sharing what I am inspired by and I'm inspired by folk art," Gierosky said.
The exhibition will be on display through Dec.1 and includes masks, kachina dolls, molas and Voodoo flags, an art-inspired trip around the world that mimics Gierosky's travels and interests.
"I am using recycled materials for most of them," Gierosky said. "The masks are recycled materials, I have a whole case of kachinas (dolls) that are recycled materials."
The masks were inspired by African masks, but the recyclable materials did not exactly come from the recyclable bin.

Low-income housing development approved in Wadsworth
WADSWORTH - A new 45-unit apartment complex for low-income renters from the Medina Metropolitan Housing Authority will move forward as planned.
The City Planning Commission granted unanimous approval for the project in October after public talks between officials and residents that sometimes grew contentious.
Santee Landing will be constructed at 451 Seville Road and will be MMHA's fourth development in Wadsworth after Mesna Apartments, Wadsworth Tower and Wadsworth Villas. Plans call for Santee Landing to be built on 7 acres of land and for the project to break ground in the spring. Construction will carry a $10.075 million price tag with most of that expected to be financed. Other funding sources include the Ohio Housing Development Assistance Program and federal low-income housing tax credits.
