Congratulations to Brunswick High School student Chase Oberg, who was named a National Merit Scholarship "Commended Student" this week, placing him in the top 3% in the nation!
 
Our condolences to the family of Nancy Javorek, 77, of Chippewa Lake who passed away last month.  Nancy was a long-time employee of both Brunswick City Schools and the Medina County Library.  She and her husband Richard, were married 42 years.

Several Local Tax Issues for Voters this November   
Medina County voters will determine the outcome of 15 tax issues on November 3.
Main Street Wadsworth October Virtual First Friday  
A downtown scarecrow contest and public art exhibit through November 6, 2020! The scarecrows installed downtown were created by Wadsworth businesses, organizations, families, and individuals.
 
This month-long event is a socially-distanced campaign to support our downtown small businesses and to beautify the heart of our community. Enjoy strolling downtown, shopping local, dining local, and voting for your favorite scarecrows! Gift cards to downtown businesses will be awarded to the winning scarecrow entries. Info.  
 
"Old School" Building Auction Fundraiser
For the next several weeks Brunswick Area Historical Society will be auctioning a number of items that have been generously donated by vendors at their  Farmer's Market and many other local artists, crafters and business people.
Auctions will run for 1 week with new items every week for the duration of the event.  Items must be picked up at Heritage farms by arrangement.   Payment may be made by credit card online by using the checkout function or by cash or check when picking up the item. Info.   
 
Medina Restaurant Week 
Until October 18th participating restaurants will offer special menus, special prices, and delicious choices! 
 
Visit one of your favorite, local dining spots, or find a new spot to love, during 2020 Medina Restaurant Weeks. Participating restaurants will offer special menus, special prices, and delicious choices.
 
Post a pic of your and your meal, tag the restaurant and #dinemedina, and win a gift card from another participating restaurant.

Adopt a Tree Program  
The Medina County Historical Society is proud to announce that after a year of fundraising, external and internal restoration, and lots of loving care, the McDowell-Phillips House is coming along nicely. With the guidance of Beth Schnabel of the Soil and Water Conservation District, the society is hoping to dress up the grounds to recreate the historic beauty of the property.  
 
Please consider adopting a tree. To adopt one or more trees, please send a check for $100 per tree designated Adopt a Tree and made out to MCHS; to Medina County Historical Society, ATTN: Adopt a Tree, 206 N. Elmwood St., Medina, OH 44256.

Soprema Senior Center 2020 Walking Challenge 
Tired of sitting at home during quarantine? Join the eighth annual Walking Challenge! Set a persona goal and boos your mood with exercise endorphins, beautiful fall scenery, and fun contests! Medina County Historical Society Raffle 
Medina County Historical Society is offering two different raffle tickets to benefit the society's preservation of the John Smart House museum and the McDowell-Phillips house. Because of the pandemic, the society has not been able to host its usual in-person fundraisers, but expenses have continued.  The first is a Victorian Feast raffle. Three winners may each bring three guests to enjoy an elegant five-course dinner at the John Smart House on Feb. 20, 2021. Raffle tickets are $5 each or four for $15. The second is a French Lick Springs Hotel raffle. The winner will receive a one-night stay for two at the French Lick Springs Hotel, voted the best hotel in Indiana, along with one round of golf for two people. In addition, the winner will receive a $300 French lick gift artificer to use as they choose: for a second night, spa amenities or dinner, ect. Raffle tickets are $10 each or three for $20. Medina County Park District Trekking Through Autumn Program 
Trekking Through Autumn is a self-guided hiking program that allows you to discover the beauty of autumn in the Medina County parks. Participants who hike at least eight (8) of the designated trails will receive an award. Backpacks are awarded the first year, and hiking pins will be awarded for successive years. Awards are free for Medina County residents. Out-of-county residents pay $10 for the backpack and $3 for a hiking pin. Completed forms must be turned in by February 28, 2021 to receive the award. The Ohio Association for College Admission Counseling (OACAC) and StriveScan have launched the student and counselor registration for a jammed-packed virtual experience like no other!

Pickleball in Wadsworth will be available at Durling Park's north tennis courts. Open play whenever court is available.  The Club will play every evening at 6:00 pm, weather permitting. Join to learn the sport and play. Weekend times will vary. The Valley City Community Group has partnered with LifeSpring Community Church to donate funds for their food pantry to help Valley City residents during quarantine. United Way has been the administrative agent for Emergency Food and Shelter Program funds for many years.  Currently the National EFSP Board has awarded over $184,000 to Medina County to assist residents with COVID19 relief.  Funds are available for assistance with food, rent, mortgage, other shelter, and utilities.  You can access assistance by reaching out to the following organizations.

Election 2020: Early voting brings large crowds
