DOE Report on CO2


The DOE has released an updated report on CO2 impacts concluding: 

  • The impact of CO2 is less damaging economically than commonly believed 
  • Climate change is real but it is not the greatest threat facing humanity 
  • The greater threat is global energy poverty

 

The five distinguished scientists who developed the DOE study are: 

  • John Christy, Ph.D., Distinguished Professor of Atmospheric and Earth Sciences and Alabama's State Climatologist at the University of Alabama in Huntsville 
  • Judith Curry, Ph.D., Professor Emerita at the Georgia Institute of Technology 
  • The Honorable Steven E. Koonin, Ph.D., Edward Teller Senior Fellow at Stanford’s Hoover Institution 
  • Ross McKitrick, Ph.D., Professor of Environmental Economics at the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada 
  • Roy W. Spencer, Ph.D., Principal Research Scientist at the University of Alabama

EPA Proposes Rescinding 2009 CO2 Rule


The EPA announced plans to rescind the 2009 “Endangerment Finding” that was the basis for federal emission regulations covering GHG. The EPA states that the cost of these regulations exceeds $1 trillion. This rule rescission will now go through a public comment period.

Omnibus Rule


One of the more stringent regulations affecting HD Vehicles in California is the Omnibus Rule. While this regulation would be threatened by the federal congressional action to rescind California’s more stringent emission standards is the Omnibus Rule. The Omnibus Rule has not been rescinded and will require: 


  • NOₓ & PM Emission Standards ramping up to a 90% reduction in NOₓ and 50% reduction in PM by model‑year 2027 compared to 2024 levels 
  • Requires longer emissions warranties from manufacturers for engine components 
  • Cost increases range from 11% (CARB) to $80,000 (Engine Manufacturers Association)
