HVIP Reopens September 9
The California HVIP Incentive Program will reopen on September 9 at 9am.
Key changes include:
- Simplified voucher tables
- Expanded fleet and program eligibility (large fleets are now eligible)
- Increased truck conversion incentives
- Streamlined compliance requirements

UC Davis ITS Report – EVs Should be Downsized
A report from the UC Davis Institute of Transportation Studies and the Global Fuel Economy Initiative (GFEI) concludes that EVs should be smaller in order to build, “...a more resilient, sustainable and competitive global automotive sector.”

EV Tax Incentive Updates from SacEV
A recent IRS update states that you can qualify for the federal tax credit if you take delivery after September as long as you have a deposit and a binding written contract by September 30th. EV leases and used EVs under $25,000 are eligible for the federal incentive. The new EVs currently eligible for EV incentive are:
- Acura ZDX
- Cadillac Lyriiq, Optiq, Vistiq
- Chevy Blazer, Equinox, Silverado
- Chrysler Pacifica PHEV
- Ford F-150 Lightning (FLASH, LARIAT, XLT trims)
- Genesis GV70
- GMC Sierra EV
- Honda Prologue
- Hyundai Ioniq 5, Ioniq 9

Ford Betting $5B on Low-Cost EVs
Ford is developing their “Universal EV Platform” that they say will enable them to build low-cost EVs that can compete with Chinese EVs. Their first model is said to be a $30K pickup truck.

EPA Moving to Disapprove California’s HD Emission Inspections Regulation
The US EPA has announced that they plan to disapprove California’s heavy-duty vehicle emission inspection program as it applies to vehicles registered out of the state.

CEC “Fast Charge California”
The California Energy Commission’s “Fast Charge California Project” has allocated $55M under the CaleVIP Program for up to 100% subsidies on the installation of DC Fast Chargers.

Homes Powering the Grid
On July 29, more than 100,000 [mostly Sunrun and Tesla] residential batteries pushed 535MW of home-storage electricity back to the grid during the peak demand period. (Reported by Abby Hopper Abby Hopper, President & CEO at Solar Energy Industries Association.)
