Luncheon Speaker: Dr. Jason Kolb

Recently paralyzed Akron ER doctor

On January 29, 2023, Dr. Jason Kolb was skiing with friends in Copper Mountain, Colorado. Two of those friends included CBMC NE Ohio chairman, Tony Ciepiel and fellow board member, Roger Emerson. Also on the trip was another friend, Jon, who describes Jason as an “excellent” and “cautious” skier. Jon took this selfie of he and Jason just before Jason went down the hill and accidentally took a wrong turn. This led him down a steep 30-foot drop and suffered a concussion, several broken bones including burst fracture of the T10 vertebra causing complete paralysis from the waist down.

None of us know how we’d respond in that moment, but the first thing Jason shared with John was, “This is bad, but God’s grace is sufficient for me.” Since then Jason has had a long rehabilitation, has mourned the change in his life, but has also continued to praise God. His wife Amy (and four children) have been by his side and supported him through it all. All those who have been with him since have proclaimed, “This is his finest hour.” Join us before golf and during lunch to be inspired by Jason’s powerful story of faith (told here in the Akron Beacon Journal) that is enabling him to find peace beyond his circumstances.
