Tails & Tales - The Adult Summer Library Experience

Anyone 18 and older is eligible to participate in the adult summer library experience. Just fill out a quick review of any library materials, events, museum or zoo passes, or take-home activities. The more reviews you submit, the more chances to win!

As part of our Adult Summer Reading Program, Tiverton Public Library presents: Tails & Tales - a Rhode Island Community Storytelling Series. Join us on Monday evenings for a festival of stories featuring local storytelling artists, historians, and community members.

Learn American Sign Language
American Sign Language ASL
Tuesdays, August 3rd-September 7th, 2:30-4:00pm, Learning Center

Learn basic signs and hand parameters in American Sign Language (ASL) in the library’s first-ever learning circle. This peer-led study group format is a great way to get together with others to study a topic you are interested in! Over 6 weeks, we’ll practice visual comprehension, signing, and basic expressive and receptive skills. Click below to register.

Tails & Tales Community Storytelling Series: Wendy Taylor from West Place Animal Sanctuary

Wendy Taylor began West Place Animal Sanctuary in memory of her beloved animals who perished in a house fire. In this program, she will recount that traumatic experience and how she gained the strength and focus to leave her 20-year law practice and dedicate her life to improving the lives of animals who have been victims of cruelty, abuse, or neglect. This program will also include a virtual tour of the sanctuary.

Hiking Tiverton - Walk, Look, and Listen

Weetamoo Woods, Pardon Gray Preserve, Pocasset Ridge, Highland Woods, Fort Barton, and more! Tiverton has an amazing array of nature trails, many with easy access and some that challenge robust hikers. This program may be just what you need to get outdoors and explore.

Tiverton Open Space Commission veteran Garry Plunkett will overview the town’s trail networks, explaining their varied ecology and historical context to provide a better understanding of what hikers can see along the trails. Longtime Tiverton hikers Rosy and Jim Probasco will give hiking tips and demonstrate AllTrails, a popular hiking app that helps you stay on track while recording distance, speed, and more.

Refreshments will be provided. Sponsored by the Friends of Tiverton Libraries.

Movie Night is back! Enjoy a free movie, snacks, and drinks at the library on the fourth Wednesday of every month!

This month, we’re screening the 2021 Oscar Winner Nomadland (2020; Rated R; 1h, 47min) starring Frances McDormand and David Strathairn. A woman in her sixties, after losing everything in the Great Recession, embarks on a journey through the American West, living as a van-dwelling modern-day nomad. Based on the book of the same name by Jessica Bruder.
Makers Meet-Up

Knitters, quilters, and crafters: come craft with us in the Community Room on the first Wednesday of every month! Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned pro, you are welcome to come and work on your own projects while socializing with fellow enthusiasts. Get project ideas, ask questions, and share tips and advice. Must bring your own equipment and supplies.

2021 Summer Teen Quest

Each summer, the Tiverton Public Library offers a Teen Summer Experience for students who are entering into Grade 6 (or students who are at least 12 years old) through Grade 12. Participation in our program allows for students to explore, participate in shared experiences, and submit their participation for prizes.

Drop by the Union Library in Historic Tiverton Four Corners on Tuesdays to learn some fun facts about native animals. While you are there, explore and create in the new outdoor craft center or pick up an activity kit to take home.

The outdoor craft center will be available on a first-come-first-served basis and is weather-dependent.
