Burial Ground for your Enemies
Do you have any enemies you would like to permanently bury? I'm not talking about a human enemy, rather our emotional and sinful enemies. These enemies can do great harm to us physically, emotionally and spiritually.
Many people today live their lives carrying a heavy weight of pain and negative emotions. We invite you to bury those enemies in this Garden of Peace and walk away free from their torture. Galatians 5:1 says: "It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery." Jesus came to this earth to provide all that we need; a relationship with God, forgiveness of our sins, and healing for us physically, emotionally, and spiritually. We live in a fallen world and we have many negative companions that make a mess of our lives and destroy the true life we can have in Jesus. The purpose of the Garden of Peace, is to allow you to bury your enemies and walk away with Joy and Peace.
In the coming weeks, we will be constructing a burial garden as part of the Prayer Walk. It will also be the focus of our sermon series and adult Bible Study for the next 10 weeks. The themes will be Stress, Fear, Destructive Habits, Hate, Unforgiveness, Harmful Beliefs, Untruths, Anger, Illness and Disease, and All other known and unknown enemies of the Spirit. I have invited input from the council and elders on the themes so the final burial ground may change a bit.
This series provides an excellent opportunity for evangelism. Everyone, including non-Christians struggle with these enemies and would like to be free of the hold they may have in their lives. You may know someone who is currently struggling with stress or fear or one of the other topics. So, you might invite someone because of a particular topic or you might invite them for the nature of the entire series. Please pray and consider who God might be nudging you to invite.
I will be praying, and invite you to as well, that lives would be touched, healed, and transformed through a focus on these important areas of our lives. I am excited to see what God will do. See you Sunday!
Pastor Philip

THANKS
to everyone who supported Champions for Jesus Christian Day Camp
The week was a great success with over 40 campers and 20 supporters. One of the best things was the help provided by our Youth leaders. They were awesome and wonderful role models to the young campers. We also had the Evergreen Academy preschoolers and pre-K kids here with their director Betty West and 3 of her teachers - THANKS to you all and we look forward to seeing you here in October. Thanks too for ALL the great snack food and those of you who contributed $$$.

Prayer Walk
Prayer Walking is intercession on location around the grounds of Lutheran Church of the Cross. During VBS Day Camp the children and youth participated in weeding, picking up pine cones and
raking 12 bags of pine needles while learning about the Prayer Walk and doing community service. They walked the first three stations of the Lord's Prayer and prayed the Lord's Prayer. Station 1: Our Father in Heaven; Station 2: Hallowed be your name; and Station 3: Your Kingdom Come. The walk begins in the "grove" among the pine trees with benches to sit ponder and reflect on the Lord's Prayer,
current issues and seeking guidance while being in the presence of the Lord among nature. It is a privilege to enjoy the beauty of the grove, pine trees and the sunlight streaming through the pine trees. The prayer walk is another way of experiencing spiritual growth in prayer while extending and inviting the community to come and pray in the grove. Throughout VBS Day Camp work continued on getting the prayer signs up with the thanks of Paul Morhmann and George Faust. Pastor Reimers has returned from his sabbatical and has proposed some additions to the prayer walk. Watch for the upcoming additions to enhance the spiritual journey.

Memorial Garden
A new memorial garden has been planted in memory of the SarahKuntz family. Daughter Elizabeth Knight, husband Sean and children Calvin, Maggie and Kasey are members of LCC. The perennials were planted, along with ornamental grass. We wish to honor the Knight family in memory of her mother. Gloria Owens wishes tothank George Faust, Sue Chnowetph, Karen Soper and Clair O'Obrien for their help in planting the garden.

The moderate hiking group will have a couple of hiking options for August. The hikes are usually early Wednesdays and we are walking 4-5 miles at a steady pace, with an elevation gain of 300-900'. If you're interested in participating, contact Jill Hansen at [email protected]. Beginner hikers can contact Jill to request a more casual hiking adventure.

Congregational Survey
Be looking in your email soon for an invitation to participate in a survey which will provide direction for our congregation to become the healthy vibrant congregation that God desires. Doing our best to put to the side our experience of what churches do, we will invite your input as to what individual Christians, the Church as a collective body, and the activities of the pastor, and churches should be. I look forward to sharing with you the discernment process and
implementing God's vision for His Church.
2018 Moving to Spiritual Maturity
I am looking for input and then help in developing a series for 2018 that will help lead every member of LCC to a deeper relationship with Christ and to Spiritual Maturity. The first step is to formulate the themes that will help us to fulfill this objective. If you have ideas please email them to me at
[email protected].
The second step will be to develop the curriculum more fully. Please pray and consider if you could help with a piece of this. Once we have the major themes determined I would love to divide them up for members to help develop the questions and concepts to be presented to the congregation. I will develop an example of what I am hoping for by the end of the month. Thank you for your partnership in ministry.
