Atrial fibrillation: women often diagnosed later than men
September is National Atrial Fibrillation Awareness Month. According to the American Heart Association, atrial fibrillation (also called AFib or AF) is a quivering or irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia) that can lead to blood clots, stroke, heart failure and other heart-related complications. More than 2.7 million Americans have been diagnosed with a heart rhythm disorder such as atrial fibrillation and women are often diagnosed later with more severe symptoms. Read more »

Wired for Life
The virtual workshop is designed for patients and their loved ones to learn how an ICD works. The session is presented by Department of Electrophysiology registered nurses at Baylor Scott & White Heart and Vascular Hospital – Dallas. Class topics include information to better understand the implanted device, ICD home monitoring system, shock plan, as well as learning how to return to daily activities, exercise and heart-healthy eating. Presented virtually via Zoom.

U.S. News & World Report announces “High Performing” designations
In its 2022-2023 “America’s Best Hospitals” list, U.S. News & World Report recognized Baylor Scott & White Heart and Vascular Hospital - Dallas by rating it High Performing in Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm, Heart Failure and Heart Attack.
In addition, the hospital was rated High Performing in TAVR – Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement – a procedure often an option for patients with severe aortic stenosis. Since the very early availability of TAVR in 2011 on the Baylor Dallas campus, there have been close to 1,600 of these procedures performed and more than 325 TAVRS performed since 2017 at Baylor Scott & White Heart and Vascular Hospital – Fort Worth.
