August Dinner Speaker

Alex McGill

Southwest Airlines

August 7th, 2024

No Host Bar: 5:30 p.m., Dinner starts at 6:30 p.m.

We have all placed ourselves in the care of flight crews from time to time. We have heard from many pilots about their responsibilities. This month it is an opportunity for us to learn about an integral component of the flight crew, the flight attendant.

Alex McGill is going on her 5th year as a flight attendant for Southwest Airlines. She graduated from Cal Poly with a degree in Recreation, Parks and Tourism and immediately jumped into a flight attendant position at legacy Virgin America. After a few short years away from the aviation industry she realized that she didn’t want to “work for a living” so she returned to the airlines and is now what they call a “lifer.” She has experienced commuting, crashpads, flying through a pandemic, and the Max aircraft grounding. From beachfront resorts in Hawaii to medical emergencies at 35,000 feet, she has truly experienced a career where no two days are the same. When she is not working, she enjoys spending time with her husband and their ten chickens as well as working towards her commercial pilot certificate.

You will learn that there is a lot more to the responsibilities and training of flight attendants than you realize. I am sure you will enjoy hearing her take on what a day in the life of a flight attendant is all about. And the next time you fly you will be glad you know.

Dinners are catered and open to the public ($25/person), and reservations are required prior to 6 p.m., Monday prior to dinner, either On-line HERE or call 805 296-1935.

Did You Know?

Throughout the year numerous visitors from countries around the world cross the thresholds of both Estrella Warbirds Museum and the Woodland Auto Display. As many of you know, there are quite a few artifacts on display which have also spent time on foreign soil, water or air, whether in times of peace or involvement in conflict. We are not here to judge but to make future generations aware that peace comes with a price which is shared by all. This fact cannot be erased nor re-written from history.

We have also noticed from a web publication standpoint that there are times various school districts from throughout the US utilize our websites as a learning resource. We are deeply honored.

During this past month, we will be adding a new feature to both ewarbirds.org and woodlandautodisplay.com, which is the ability to quickly and easily translate the pages into your favorite language from around the world.
