A Season of New Beginnings, Brave Steps & Bold Moves

August always brings that shift—that feeling of something new beginning. For many of us, it means a return to early mornings, bus stops, packed lunches, and managing big emotions (ours included). But it also brings fresh chances: to reconnect, to advocate, and to create systems that help our children feel seen, supported, and successful.

💛 Logan is heading back to school! And I’ll be honest—every year, I get a lump in my throat seeing how far he’s come. From fighting to survive to running into school with his backpack bouncing? That’s a miracle in motion. But it’s also years of IEP meetings, therapy sessions, tough decisions, and so much love. For all the parents walking into school buildings this month holding hope in one hand and anxiety in the other—I see you.

🎒 Back-to-School Toolkit: Let’s Set Them Up for Success

Whether you're new to the world of IEPs or a seasoned pro, now is the perfect time to revisit your child’s plan and set the tone for the year. Here's how we can prep like the powerhouse parents we are:

📋 IEP Success Checklist

• Review last year’s goals: What worked? What didn’t?

• Draft a “snapshot” one-pager for teachers: Who is your child beyond the diagnosis? What lights them up?

• Communicate early: Send a warm, clear intro email to your child's team (or let me help you write one!).

Visual Routine Schedules

Back-to-school transitions are smoother when kids know what’s coming. Whether it's a visual chart or color-coded schedule, routines = regulation.

💔 Life Lately: Grief & Grace

This summer brought more than transitions—it brought heartbreak. I lost my dad unexpectedly. One minute we were planning golf lessons together (yes, he had just gotten into sports for the first time in my entire life), and the next, I was saying goodbye.

Grief isn’t linear. It shows up unannounced, in moments that feel quiet or in the middle of a to-do list. I’ve been balancing deep sadness with deep gratitude. I still showed up for Logan. I still showed up for work. But I also gave myself space to fall apart and rebuild—because both are necessary.

So if this season feels heavier for you too, you’re not alone. You don’t need to be “on” all the time. You don’t need to have it all figured out. Just take the next right step. One breath, one boundary, one brave choice at a time.

🧡 Encouragement for the Journey

Here’s your gentle reminder as school kicks off: You don’t have to do it all perfectly. Your child’s journey doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s.

Celebrate the messy mornings, the hard-won victories, the communication breakthroughs, and even the quiet moments of survival. Because that is where the growth lives. That’s where the love is.

You’ve got this. And I’ve got your back.

With resilience and heart,
