August 2019
We have continued to share stories on our 40 for 40 page, including Carmen's, seen above. Carmen shares her experience with work, starting with field work in the Philippines. The connection to community and purpose that NAPCA SCSEP provides is critical for our seniors and communities.

We have shared additional stories through July and look forward to sharing some great stories in August . Keep an eye on our 40 for 40 Campaign page for regular updates!
AAPI Caregiving Project: Focus Groups
NAPCA-hosted focus group discussions are happening now with AAPI, particularly Chinese, caregivers to better understand their care giving experiences and challenges they face in accessing healthcare, financial assistance, and community support for themselves and their loved ones.

These focus groups are part of the Diverse Elders Coalition's caregiving project which aims to transform the capacity and cultural competency of the healthcare service network to better address the needs of those providing family care to diverse elders. NAPCA is hosting these sessions as a member of the Diverse Elders Coalition.

Past dates: 7/22, 7/29
Future dates: 8/9, 8/12, 8/15 and 8/19

Outreach and Education
NAPCA President and CEO, Joon Bang, continues to reach out to community organizations and local representatives to connect our seniors and communities with opportunity and informed representation.

At the above pictured presentation, CEO Bang spoke with the King County Advisory Council on Aging and Disability Services at their monthly meeting to share NAPCA's scope, program areas, and advocacy efforts. Additionally he covered available services and gaps for AAPI adults and ideas on how the Advisory Council can help advocate for AAPI needs. We look forward to continuing to work with ADS to serve our seniors!
NAPCA Partner News
On the Diverse Elders blog, Cha Vang, 2017 SEARAC Moving Mountains Equity Summit participant and advisory council member for the 2019 summit, reflected on ways this annual event allows Southeast Asian Americans to heal, connect, innovate, and activate as well as bring that activist spirit back home to their communities to advocate for improved healthcare access and economic security for all generations. Transportation access and equity for seniors can drastically impact the opportunities for our seniors. In light of that, NAPCA is proud to have joined with more than 20 other national organizations in an appeal to the Senate Transportation HUD Appropriations Subcommittee to fully fund the FAST Act and continue to ensure that the needs of seniors and those with disabilities are prioritized through technical assistance and training investments.
Additionally, in partnership with the LEAD Coalition , NAPCA urged our senators to reject the proposed changes to Medicare Part D. The proposed changes would impact government savings without any review of the impact to out-of-pocket costs for seniors who rely on Part D coverage for critical health services.
Our partners at SAGE , in conjunction with the Human Rights Campaign, have launched a first-of-its-kind Long-Term Care Equality Index (LEI) to assess the equitable access of residential care facilities in the United States. You can read more about this project here.

NAPCA is excited to welcome Jenna Holzberg as the Regional Director II for NAPCA SCSEP in Chicago. Jenna has been providing workforce, training and employment assistance to the senior population for over ten years through the Trade Adjustment Assistance Program and the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP.)
