Women's Circle:

The Women's Circle will not meet in August. No information has been received about the Presbytery Cluster Gathering which is usually in August, but "stay tuned" for when the word comes to us.

You are invited to an ordiversary:    Kyle celebrates 20 years of ordained ministry. On Sunday, August 27, Rev. Katrina Shawgo of Hospice Austin will preach the sermon and at 4:00 that day all are welcome to informally gather at Opal Divine's across Live Oak from the church to spend some time together.

Free Yoga Class:

Please join Becky Davis for our free yoga class on Monday evenings at 5:30 in the Fellowship Hall. Yoga is a wonderful way to get into shape! That's Mondays in the Fellowship Hall at 5:30! Hope to see you there!!

Faith Book Group:

Faith book group will meet on August 28th (the FOURTH Monday) at 7:00 in the parlor.  We will be discussing Faithful Resistance: Gospel Visions for the Church in a Time of Change by Rick Ufford-Chase.

Because we think this is an important book, we've decided to divide our discussion into two monthly meetings.  In August we will discuss Part One: Church in the Heart of Empire (103 pages) which includes Chapter 1: Confronting Empire at the Border, Chapter 2: Dismantling White Supremacy, Chapter 3: Reimagining Ecological Theology, Chapter 4: Learning Non-Violence in a Multifaith World, Chapter 5: Resisting the Seduction of Silence.

We will study Part Two: Gospel Visions in September.

Ufford-Chase is a friend of Pat Brandenburg and Pete Hendrick and of Marilyn and Will White.   From 2004-2006, he was Moderator of the 216th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA).  He is a lifelong activist and advocate for social justice.

We think this is a great opportunity for us to think about "the what" that Kyle has asked us to consider.  What is it that we want to do at Faith Church in response to God's love?

Pride Parade 2017:

The Austin Pride Parade is Saturday evening, August 26, and we will be marching with our beautiful new rainbow banner.  This is Austin's best parade with friendly cheering crowds.  We will have cold water, stress balls to toss to the crowds, and a vehicle for rides if you get tired.  Meet on San Jacinto between 12th St. and 14th St. at 7:30 PM.  For more information Talk to Will White, (512) 450-2767.

Back-to-School Loose Change Offering:

The Back-to-School loose change offering will be collected every Sunday in August. This offering benefits our Travis High School Outreach ministry, including student appreciation day. This month is the time to empty your pockets, look under the couch cushions, check your car console, and shake out all of your old purses. The offering counters look forward to stacking and counting lots of quarters, dimes, nickels, and even pennies.         Many thanks, Marilyn

Save The Dates:

November 5 we will screen the Out of Order documentary at Alamo Drafthouse for the community and November 12 we will celebrate the church's 60th anniversary with Rev. Sallie Watson, General Presbyter of Mission Presbytery, preaching that day.

Oltorf Bridge Project:

The bridge over I-35 many of us use to get to and from the church will soon experience construction delays or closure. Improvements include the reconstruction of the Oltorf Street bridge, improving entrance/exit ramps and frontage roads, constructing new extended entrance/exit lanes for main lanes and ramps, and adding U-turns in both directions at Oltorf Street. Bicycle and pedestrian enhancements will also be made along the I-35 frontage roads in each direction within the project limits. We will try to keep you informed when the bridge closes for several months and advise you of alternative routes to the church during that time. Check the "Find Us" page for current status and maps.

Request For Devotional Books:

If you have devotional booklets (such as Upper Room or Guideposts, or...), or  Bible study books you no longer need (Circle women?), please give them to Martha Loer, who will see that they get to the women's jail ministry in Del Valle, which is done by Church Women United.    After each CWU event, a group of women goes to the jail to present the same event for the women there.    Hardback books are not allowed, but softbacks are always welcome.

New Hymnals:

The hymnals are finally here.  I have been busy putting the nameplates in and once everything is ready, watch this space for our inaugural Sunday.  We will be making some changes to the order of worship to accommodate the possible enjoyment of a third hymn some Sundays to enjoy the new hymnal more.

Please help our senior neighbors stay independent by contacting Drive a Senior South Austin! You can make a donation, or become a volunteer, or both. Please click on the link below for more information or contact Martha Loer at loer07@yahoo.com or 512-447-8012.
