Happenings At

"I tell you not to worry about your life. Don't worry about having something to eat, drink, or wear. Isn't life more than food or clothing? Look at the birds in the sky! They don't plant or harvest. They don't even store grain in barns. Yet your Father in heaven takes care of them. Aren't you worth much more than birds? Can worry make you live longer? Why worry about clothes? Look how the wild flowers grow. They don't work hard to make their clothes. But I tell you that Solomon with all his wealth wasn't as well clothed as one of them."
Matthew 6:25-29 CEV

Special Service Schedule:
God's Work Our Hands Sunday
September 11th
One Service At 9:00 AM
This day is an opportunity to celebrate who we are as the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America – one church, freed in Christ to serve and love our neighbor. Service activities offer an opportunity for us to explore one of our most basic convictions as Lutherans: that all of life in Jesus Christ – every act of service, in every daily calling, in every corner of life – flows freely from a living, daring confidence in God’s grace.
Planning is ongoing at Lord Of Life to provide an activity in which our members can participate. Watch for news on this as time approaches.

From The Pastor's Desk:
What I learned from our Vacation Bible School, "Food Truck Party," theme verse:
"Give us, O Lord, our daily bread."
I was blessed to be the Bible story-telling station leader for our Vacation Bible School, and I learned two key things:
1. God's love is like a food truck - it goes where people need their daily bread, creatively feeding them and giving them (and us!) the gifts of nourishment, presence, and fun - all parts of our daily bread. The people inside the truck's kitchen get to open their window and share God's love. God gives us our daily bread and many ways to share it. I learned this from our curriculum and from having to put my faith into words to share with others.
2. From the logistics side of VBS, I discovered - or was reminded again - how much the Church needs all ages in order to encounter love most fully. This year, our VBS kids were mostly ages 3-5, with only a few kids in elementary school age. I'd not thought much before about how important that older student group is, but I really missed them this year! Our group Shepherds (grades 6-12) helped lead the kids, but having kids leading from within the group is really important - the ones who simply sing along, arrive and depart without needing extra hugs and consolation, and show the little ones how to focus. I'm so grateful to our senior Station leaders and our youth Shepherds - but it turns out that to be a full community, we needed all ages to participate. It's a subtle gift that they bring, but an important one!
Extending that to our congregation, EVERY age group matters immensely. Often the younger and youngest ones get most visible attention; yet their parents in the background are essential, and often need encouragement. Our seniors are essential and are a wonderful example of how learning and serving happen at every stage of life. Our middle-aged folks bring so many gifts - hands on serving, knowledge of today's tech, years of wisdom in Church and world. Millenials and Gen-Z call the Church to authentic ministry, in both their presence (informing and journeying with us) or by their absence (making us ask new questions).
VBS is a wonderful journey in both theology and in practice. There's so much to be learned from being together. Lord of Life will continue to learn and grow - together! - as we seek God's creative nourishing Word, shared to all ages, and by all ages.
Peace,
Pastor Wendolyn

Great times include: Sunday and Monday afternoons, Saturday and Wednesday evenings, and weekday times. Text, email, or make plans when you are in the Church building. The better Pastor knows you, the better she can care for you as an individual and the more she can encourage you as a disciple!
"Pulpit Exchange," Sunday, September 4th:
With a clergy couple, some people refer to their pastor's spouse as their "pastor-in-law," an indirect relation, but an important one! The Trozzo's will share the pulpit exchange on Labor Day weekend. Pastor Eric will preach and lead worship at Lord Of Life at our 9:00 AM service, while Pastor Wendolyn will serve at Saint Matthew's. Come and welcome Pastor Eric, and let him get to know Lord Of Life better!

Our Confirmation program is a 2-year experience, usually starting in 7th grade but flexible to fit youth who want to learn about faithful living, ask questions in a safe learning environment, find the fun of faith and fellowship, and grow in their ability to follow Jesus.

Tuesday, August 9th,
At 1:00 PM
Transcendent Kingdom, By Yaa Gyasi
Transcendent Kingdom by Yaa Gyasi is a deeply moving portrait of a family of Ghanaian immigrants ravaged by depression and addiction and grief--a novel about faith, science, religion, love.
There are plenty of copies in the Burlington County Library.
Here is a description of the story:
Gifty is a fifth-year candidate in neuroscience at Stanford School of Medicine studying reward-seeking behavior in mice and the neural circuits of depression and addiction. Her brother, Nana, was a gifted high school athlete who died of a heroin overdose after a knee injury left him hooked on OxyContin. Her suicidal mother is living in her bed. Gifty is determined to discover the scientific basis for the suffering she sees all around her. But even as she turns to the hard sciences to unlock the mystery of her family’s loss, she finds herself hungering for her childhood faith and grappling with the evangelical church in which she was raised, whose promise of salvation remains as tantalizing as it is elusive.

Lord Of Life members provided about 30 meals for Bridge Of Peace day campers on July 26th. A meal of sloppy Joes, rolls, salad, mac-n-cheese, lemonade, and dessert was enjoyed by the campers. Barbara Wagner received the following note from camp organizer, Connie Wolf, and wanted to share it with all Lord Of Life members:
"Thank you for a wonderful meal yesterday! The kids loved everything. As we talk about God’s Boundless Love, your meal showed them that there are people that they don’t even know that love them enough to provide a special meal! Enjoy the rest of your summer!"

A Special Message
To All
THANK YOU for all the lovely cards, phone calls, and especially the prayers for healing after my recent kidney transplant. I am doing very well. No more dialysis or home health care is needed. I do need to be extremely careful about being out and about in public so I will be using YouTube for worship at this time. I am hoping to return to in person worship in mid to late September. I look forward to seeing my LOL family at that time.

From The Editor:
LifeLines Ending Song:
On July 23rd and 24th, Lord Of Life's annual Christmas In July services were held. Our choir had been scheduled to sing this Ending Song, but, unfortunately, there were circumstances that prevented them from singing. BUT, here is a rendition of "Calypso Christmas" for all to enjoy. The song was written by Natalie Sleeth, a world famous composer of over 180 church anthems and children's songs. She passed away in 1992 at the age of 61. Our choir has sung a number of her anthems. The choir hopes to sing Calypso this coming Christmas.
