Dear Sisters and Brothers in God’s abundant love,
One draft mission statement that our council considered nearly five years ago included, “Connecting with God, each other, and the community.” Then, two years ago, our synod entered a New Connections campaign. Then, in our spring town hall meetings, our congregation identified connections within St. Mark’s as a congregational priority. Then, the theme of our synod assembly in June was “connecting up, in, and out.”
It seems pleasing to the Spirit that the theme for St. Mark’s for this coming program year (2018-19) is connecting. We will be intentional about making new connections, making existing connections stronger, and reconnecting with those we have missed. We will do this in our relationships with God, each other, and our community.
I have some very specific goals for this year around each of these, such as, the creation of a small group ministry to deepen our connections with God and each other, the development of a worship committee to assist with the same, and building upon our Speaking Peace Together event in January and our participation in the iftar at Ezher Bloom Mosque to make new connections with our community.
To help us all better connect and reconnect with each other, a new church directory was printed and distributed in church last Sunday. All members will also be receiving it electronically. Look it over. Pray for those named within it. Reach out to anyone the Spirit might lead you to connect or reconnect with. And, of course, let us know if there are any needed corrections.
The directory will then be put into further use by our pastoral staff; our prayer team; our ministry teams, committees, and groups; and, most importantly, every member of St. Mark’s. Connecting and reconnecting with each other is God’s work for the whole congregation. May God strengthen us and bless our efforts as we connect up, in, and out.
One with you in God’s love,
