Dear St. John's Members and Friends,
St. John's is blessed to have a wonderfully dedicated team of lay people who volunteer their time to form the leadership core of our parish. Much of this work is behind the scenes and without fanfare. This work does not stop in the summer and our vestry gathered for a meeting on July 27
th following the Healing Eucharist. Here is a short summary of our work together:
MOTHER COSMAN called the meeting to order at 7:05pm and GINNY HOFFMAN gave the opening prayer. The Dwelling in the Word study of Luke 10:1-12 included a rich conversation around where we felt "sent out into the world as a lamb in the midst of wolves." RYAN PATCH volunteered to take minutes as BETH COATES was away on vacation.
The Priest in Charge process included an update that our consultant, THE REV. JOSPEH SHEPLEY, will be joining us for our September meeting to complete the next steps in the process, including the review of our goals and how they can be updated to reflect the progress that we have made as a parish.
JOHN GARGIULO, our Junior Warden, shared our progress on improvements in the kitchen and the vestry formulated a plan for moving forward during the summer with vestry input.
The Gill Memorial Garden will benefit from a visit from MARK MARCHETTI, an arborist who will work on items proposed by NORMA PAPPALARDO.
In other Mechanical and Botanical news, STAN MORASKI, our Senior Warden, is working to obtain quotes for power washing the Spirituality and Formation building and for painting the upper third of the front of the church. DON PHILLIPS from Quinoco has provided St. John's with lock in prices for both oil and propane and the vestry approved with appreciation, the plan for the coming year.
DIANE HAYES reported on our summer parish project, "Where Do You See God?" and the progress in hanging the photographs in the walkway.
Our Region Missionary, ELIZA MARTH, will be joining us for worship on September 10
th and will be available to chat at coffee hour following the service.
In administrative matters, the minutes of the June meeting, prepared by BETH COATES, were accepted. KAREN STRONK has been hired as our new auditor following the death of FRED PRIOR. DIANE HAYES will provide the parish with a second quarter update following the Eucharist on August 6
th.
DIANE HAYES and NANCY GIBSON reported that Tag sale items are coming in and we are moving forward with a Taste of Trinity/St. John's.
Our Mission and Outreach Team, BEYOND THE RED DOORS, is making good progress. The Little Free pantry is dug and BRUCE & LAURE WEARNE are making progress on construction. Our Fresh Market/Soup Kitchen partnership, led by BETTY CASTONGUAY and GINNY HOFFMAN is going very well. LUCIE MARTOCCHIO is working with our Covenant to Care for Children (C2C4C) social worker, MICHELLE CHASE to gather backpacks and school supplies for children at risk.
JILL HEALEY shared that MARY HEALEY and the New Hartford Ambulance Explorers will be holding a spaghetti dinner to raise funds for training purposes on August 12
th.
A discussion of our participation in New Hartford Days took place and KEVIN CASE will work with SALLY O'NEILL to make a plan to go forward with some possible creative new ideas.
JILL HEALEY reported that LUKE HEALEY has reported for training in the Marine Corps. The vestry committed to hold him and their family in our prayers.
The vestry ended the meeting by saying together the Lord's Prayer.
