Mental Health Resources
Last month the Marin IJ published this article outlining the increase in incidence of mental health crises and the escalation of both physical and drug abuse the County is seeing during this pandemic. Depression and anxiety are at an all time high and feeling isolated is impacting a significant number people’s day to day lives.
Unfortunately, we are not entering a time when mental health and wellness is suddenly going to improve. Thankfully, we are however living in a time when asking for help is considered a strength.
Below are links to County and National resources which may be helpful for you or a friend or family member.

Reopening of Some Outdoor Personal Services
Based on local COVID data which is showing that our infection rate is flattening and hospitalizations are on a downward trend, Marin County Public Health will allow for the reopening of some personal care services offered outdoors. Nail salons, massage therapy, esthetic services, cosmetology and skin care services can reopen outdoors effective immediately. Indoor and outdoor services for tattooing, piercing and electrolysis must remain closed because of Marin’s status on the State of California’s County Monitoring List as are most California counties.
Read the press release to find out more about personal care services that can be offered in outdoor settings. Hotels and Short Term Rentals are slated to open following County reopening guidelines on August 24 – the County’s public health officer will make a final decision on Aug. 21 and will approve the move only if Marin’s countywide incidence remains below 200 cases per 100,000 residents for the prior two weeks.

Outdoor Dining and Retail Permits
In an effort to temporarily streamline Town regulations regarding outdoor dining and other business uses (e.g., outdoor retail), the Town Council has created a Temporary Use Permit (TUP) process for private property and an encroachment permit process for public property such as parking spaces. These programs will allow restaurants and other businesses to temporarily expand their operations outside for such uses as dining, retail, or exercise classes.
Click the button below for information on the encroachment permit. Please contact the Planning Department at (415) 453-1584 or Ben Berto, Planning and Building Services Director at bberto@townoffairfax.org for information on the TUP.

Presentation on Sir Francis Drake Blvd. History
Monday, August 17 at 6pm
The public online learning session about Sir Francis Drake Boulevard has been rescheduled for 6 p.m. Monday, August 17. The planned August 5 session was postponed because of scheduling conflicts with several other video-conferences pertaining to similar civil rights topics.
A Marin County historian, a representative from local indigenous tribes, and a history professor are lined up to be the featured guests for online learning session August 5 about Sir Francis Drake Boulevard, one of Marin’s primary thoroughfares. The session was prompted by a grassroots effort to have the road renamed because of its namesake’s documented history as a 16thcentury slave trader.
