Date: August 14, 2019
Time: 8:30 AM - 1:00 PM
Place: Benedum Hall 157

A workshop scheduled for August 14 focuses on the fundamentals for an investigator to start basic biomedical research at the University of Pittsburgh, including an introduction to key regulatory committees (the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee [IACUC] and the Institutional Biosafety Committee [IBC]), as well as the Department of Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) and the Division of Laboratory Animal Resources (DLAR).

By the end of the symposium, investigators will be proficient in submitting protocols to the IACUC and IBC, will understand how to work effectively with EH&S in managing a safe laboratory, and will know how to order animals and utilize the resources of the DLAR. In addition, they will learn about conflict of interest and conflict of commitment, research integrity, and export control regulations.

This symposium is relevant for investigators, postdocs, graduate students, and staff members who engage in basic biomedical research.
