Oakville's Intergovernmental Priorities

Last night, Council was presented with the 2023 priority intergovernmental requests.
In an effort to effectively advocate for the town's vision, growth targets, and needs, Council has embarked on a systematic approach to streamline and align intergovernmental requests with its priorities.
The strategic priorities encompass four key areas:
- Growth Management
- Community Belonging
- Accountable Government
- Environmental Sustainability
The 2023 priority intergovernmental requests highlight the town's commitment to collaboration, sustainable growth, community welfare, and effective governance.
With a strategic focus on tangible outcomes and thoughtful engagement, Oakville aims to transform its vision into a vibrant and livable reality for all residents.

New Town Hall

Council received a report suggesting that staff proceed with the planning and development requirements for a new town hall on the existing site at 1225 Trafalgar Road.
The need for a new town hall arises from the projected construction of a road through the current location in the late 2020s.
A feasibility study was conducted to identify a suitable site for the new town hall, and preliminary analysis has concluded that the existing site at 1225 Trafalgar Road is a viable option, eliminating the need to acquire additional land.
The envisioned new town hall aims to be technologically advanced, environmentally conscious, and supportive of a hybrid work environment while aligning with Oakville's carbon emissions reduction goals. The project schedule indicates that the process is set to commence in Q4-2023 and be completed by mid-2024.

Ford Motor reveals details behind
$1.8B plan to build EV's in Oakville

Oakville’s Ford Motor Co. released some of the details Monday (Aug. 14) behind its $1.8 billion dollar plan to turn the Oakville Assembly Complex into a high-volume hub of electric vehicle manufacturing in Canada.
The newly renamed Oakville Electric Vehicle Complex will begin to retool in the second quarter of 2024 and start producing electric vehicles in 2025.
Part of the transformation will also include a new 407,000 sq. on-site foot battery plant that will included parts from Ford’s operations in Kentucky. These components will be assembled by Oakville workers into battery packs and then installed into vehicles at the local plant.

Blaze Fire Academy Graduation

Halton Fire Departments collaborated on an academy camp program that encourages young women to explore their careers in the fire services.
Blaze Fire Academy was held from August 9th to 10th and provided young women who may not have considered the possibility of pursuing a career in the fire services with an introduction into various career opportunities available.

For the first time in more than 160 years, a Canadian Indigenous delegation had an audience with a sitting monarch.
A delegation from the Mississauga Nation — including Chief R. Stacey Laforme of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and Chief Robert Chiblow of the Mississauga First Nation — met with King Charles III during a garden party at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh on July 4.

City of Vaughan is trying to fight car thefts by handing out thousands of free signal-blocking tools
In an effort to reduce vehicle thefts in the GTA, the City of Vaughan is handing out thousands of free key fob protective bags to residents starting this week.
“Studies have shown that key fob protective bags can block thieves from reading radio frequencies in car key fobs,” the city wrote in an announcement.
“While the bags are one method to safeguard your vehicle, you are encouraged to do your own research and take the appropriate steps you believe will best protect your property.”

Applications are now being accepted for the $2,500 Digital Transformation Grants! Applications will be accepted until September 30, 2023, or until funds are fully exhausted. There are a limited number of grants available, so businesses are encouraged to apply early!
It is free to apply and the process is simple:

- Pass the pre-qualification quiz, complete the 2.5 hours of online training, and develop your Digital Transformation Plan.
- Apply for a $2,500 grant.
