SUPPORT FOR MAUI

Wind-driven wildfires on Maui have prompted evacuations and caused significant loss of life and widespread damage. UMCOR is coordinating with the California-Pacific Annual Conference to process an initial grant for emergency supplies such as shelf-stable food, water, hygiene items and tools to help survivors recover belongings. As first responders continue to provide initial aid in the area, please join UMCOR in prayer for those affected. Donate to UMCOR HERE.

MONTHLY TAIZÉ SERVICE

Taizé brings a time for contemplative worship which involves sung and chanted prayers, meditation, a period of silence, liturgical readings, and icons - it is a quiet opportunity for unhurried, deep personal connection with God. The next Taizé Service will be held in Fellowship Hall on Sunday, August 20 at 4:00pm.

NEW MEMBER ORIENTATION

Whether you’re new to Dayspring or have been attending for a while, we invite you to attend a one-hour session with Pastor Jeff to learn more about the UMC and Dayspring, specifically, on Sunday, August 20 at 11:45am. We will meet both in-person in Room 112 and Zoom. We will also host a New Member Orientation on August 21 at 2:00pm at Friendship Village. If you would like to attend either session, please email the church office.

NEW MEMBER MENTORS

We are a growing church and would like to create a group of individuals that would be willing to mentor a new member to through at least their first three months after joining our community. If you would like more information or to be in the mentor pool, please email Suzanne.

FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT

& ICE CREAM SOCIAL

Come to Dayspring on Friday, August 25 for an ice cream social with sundae bar. Be sure to wear your comfy clothes and bring snacks, sleeping bags, and stuffed animals, because after ice cream we will cozy up on the floor of Fellowship Hall for a family movie night. The ice cream social starts at 6:30 and movie starts at 7pm.

VOLUNTEERS IN MISSION

Volunteers are needed to help the Fountains UMC with a wheelchair ramp installation on August 26 in Mesa. We bring tools, but if you have a cordless drill and T-25 bits, please bring them. With enough help the install may be completed in four hours. Please email Ray Spooner with questions or to volunteer.  Learn more at: sawssouthwest.org

EXPLORER'S CLASS

Welcome back to the 2023-24 Explorers’ Class! We will begin our new adult education season starting August 27th. Yes, we are beginning in August this year to get a jump-start on all the great topics we have lined up! We meet at 9:00am each Sunday for interesting, adventurous lessons and discussions on myriad topics: Christian, historical, spiritual, topical, sometimes academic, and very often thought-provoking. Our class is inclusive and welcomes and encourages all ages, genders, and viewpoints.

The Explorers’ Class will kick off our fall session August 27th with an exciting and eye-opening, five-part interactive UMC Bible study. We will learn about the surprising and varied depictions of God throughout the Bible. What imagery/poetry evokes mystery or wisdom? How does God appear in Proverbs versus Exodus? How and why is God presented all these ways in the Bible? We are looking forward to this unique, unforgettable Bible study, and to learning about the very different images of God that resonate in each of our hearts.

Please email Mark with any questions.

LABOR DAY CAMPOUT

Our Labor Day All-Church Campout is coming up September 1-4 at Hoyer Campground in Greer! Join us for fellowship, campfires, potlucks and FUN at a cool 8500 feet! Registration is now open. Email Carol for details.

NAME TAGS

With the temporary move to one combined service, you're probably seeing a lot more unfamiliar faces on Sunday mornings. We're encouraging everyone to wear their name tags during this time (and beyond)! Plus, it'll help Pastor Michael learn all of our names faster! Please email the church office if you are in need of a name tag. Thanks!

FINDING WAYS TO REDUCE PLASTIC POLLUTION

Did you know that turning up your thermostat by just one degree saves two to three percent on energy cooling costs, according to Arizona Public Service. Heating and cooling appliances consume about half of the electricity used by the average U.S. household. The S.A.G.E. team (Spiritual Activists Greening the Earth) encourages Dayspring members to adopt at least two new actions or habits this year to protect God’s sacred creation.
