Celebrating Older Adults; Resource Fair on
Monday, August 22
The City of Redwood City recognizes Senior Citizens Day as part of our IDEAL program's focus on inclusion, diversity, equity, accessibility and leadership (IDEAL) across Redwood City. Senior Citizens Day is coming up on Sunday August 21. It's is a day to recognize the contributions of older adults to our community, as well as inform ourselves about issues affecting this population. One way to do so is by attending From the Heart: Older Adults Navigating Wellness on August 22, from 2-5 p.m. at the Downtown library.

At the resource fair, you'll learn of local wellness resources, and beginning at 3 p.m., Lived Experience speakers from San Mateo County will share from their hearts the skills and tools they use in navigating challenges commonly faced in older adult communities. Their conversational styles highlight lively stories of decisions and hope and will show how we all will thrive at any age.
Find more details here.

Stay Up to Date With Changes to the Slow Streets Pilot Program
What is the Slow Streets Pilot Program?
The Redwood City Slow Streets Pilot Program is intended to increase the safety of walking, biking, and rolling on the designated streets by providing more space for physical distancing and reducing the clustering of foot traffic on sidewalks.

What's new?
In the past few weeks, the City installed sturdier delineators and signs at some of the Slow Streets that are listed in the Next Steps Recommendations Memo.

These streets are:

  • Katherine Ave: Nevada St to Elwood St (the section between Grant St and Fulton St is still being used by the Mt. Carmel School for daycare pick-up/drop-off).
  • A street: Stafford to Industrial way
  • E Street: Stafford St to Industrial way
  • Allerton St: Brewster Ave to Whipple Ave
  • Stambaugh St: Maple St to Laurel St
  • Flynn Ave and Scott Ave: Flynn Ave to Spring St (loop)
  • Page St: 2nd Ave to Rolison Rd
  • Cypress St: Ash St to Carlos Ave
  • West Oakwood Blvd: Carlos Ave to Oakwood Blvd
  • Ebener St: Roosevelt Ave to Geneva Ave

If you have any comments about the new modifications, email [email protected].

We are celebrating the Redwood City Parks & Arts Foundation's 10th Anniversary at Picnic en Blanc this year!

Saturday, August 27
6:00-10:00 PM
Secret location disclosed 48 hours in advance!

The Redwood City Parks and Arts Foundation presents the 7th annual Picnic en Blanc, a wonderful, nontraditional summer pop-up picnic and dance party for our community.

This 21+ event has it all…
  • Amazing outdoor location (it is a surprise until 48 hours before)
  • A great dance band: Hella Good Dance Band
  • Refreshing libations: Premium wines provided by Old County Cellars
  • and much more…

What WE do!
We set up picnic tables, outdoor games, a cash bar, dance floor and stage at a lovely, decorated outdoor venue. We provide musical entertainment during dinnertime, and afterward, a dance band to keep you on your feet dancing for 2 hours straight.

What YOU do!
We ask you to bring your picnic dinner, dress in white attire with a splash of color and bring your friends!

It's for the kids!
Picnic en Blanc is not only a “good time had by all” event, but it is also a community fundraiser. *Reminder* We Need Your Feedback on Redwood City’s Current All-electric Reach Codes!
Reach Codes are amendments to the Energy and Green Building Standards Codes to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs). Adopting Reach Codes creates opportunities for local governments to lead initiatives on climate change solutions, clean air, and renewable energy.

Redwood City first adopted Reach Codes in 2020 and now it's time for an update. In November 2022, the City will update Reach Codes for the 2023 Building Code cycle. We want to know what exemptions make the most sense today and how we can best expand the program leading towards a greener Redwood City.

We need your feedback now! Fill out this survey to give your opinion on how Redwood City should address all-electric building codes this year.

For more information on Redwood City's Reach Codes and what the current policy is, check out our website here.

Third Round of Free COVID-19 At-home Tests Now Available
Free at-home COVID-19 tests from the federal government are here!

Every home in the U.S. is eligible to order a third round of at-home COVID-19 tests. The tests are completely free and orders will usually ship in 7-12 days.

These tests are rapid antigen at-home tests, not PCR. They can be taken anywhere and give results within 30 minutes (no lab drop-off required). Order your tests now so you have them when you need them.

If you need to test now, find testing locations near you by visiting smcgov.org/testing.
COVID-19 Testing
Testing remains an important strategy in continuing to reduce the spread of the disease and to protect individuals who have not been vaccinated. Testing is available for all ages, including young children and infants, and all testing sites now use more comfortable testing methods by swabbing the front part of the nose or mouth.

People who are vaccinated or unvaccinated should get tested if they have symptoms of COVID-19. Unvaccinated persons should get tested if they have had close contact with someone with COVID-19 or have concerns about being infected or exposed.

See smcgov.org/testing for more information about locations and schedules. In addition to these sites, testing is also available from health care providers and other community organizations.
How to Obtain Your Electronic Vaccine Record
Did you know the state of California has provided an online portal to display your electronic vaccination record? The vaccine records website is a trusted source to verify a resident's vaccination status and it is more secure than a paper document that can be lost or forged. Speaking of which, if you lost your original paper vaccine card and need a new one, you can print the digital record from the website!

Still need to get vaccinated? Head over to https://myturn.ca.gov/ to check for walk-in sites near you and to book your FREE vaccine.
