Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary time - August 2, 2020
MESSAGE FROM THE PASTOR ...
Dear Friends,

Greetings form Fr. Saju!

There are and there will be challenges in life for all of us! We will encounter situations of need or scarcity at a personal level or as a community. If we are true to ourselves, we cannot be blind to these facts. What make us great or small are not the situations in which we find ourselves but the way we respond. That is the sole difference between a loser and a miracle worker.

This Sunday’s Gospel reading presents a challenging situation for the disciples – people have no food. Complaining, blame games, mud throwing, or even chasing the hungry people away would not have solved the problem. However, it would have only added to the problem. Christ expects from the disciples a response and not a reaction. Jesus invites them to a right response, “you give them something to eat.” The result was a miracle! Please remember, in the challenging situations we are as humanity, all reactions will only add to the problem. God invites a response that can address the challenge.

The miraculous feeding and the Eucharist which the miracle foreshadows make clear that what God wants to do for humanity is simply be a most generous Host at the banquet of eternal life. As individuals, let us dish out some responses that will make a difference in the banquet of our life.

I would like to repeat what I wrote at the beginning. What make us great or small are not the situations in which we find ourselves but the way we respond. That is the sole difference between a loser and a miracle worker.

Praying for you and requesting your prayers,

Fr. Saju Joseph

YOUTH & YOUNG ADULTS
The Office of Youth and Young Adults invites incoming freshman to graduating seniors to participate in “Voices of Hope – The Young Church Responds” Town Hall on Friday, August 7, 2020 at 6:30pm.

Our goal is to engage the young Church into a conversation about racism and for us to listen more deeply to their stories while promoting a vibrant faith.

Through “Voices of Hope” we will listen to the young Church and lift up the voices of the unheard. Together we will create change in our community.

Please register and confirm consent for your youth at  bit.ly/dsjvh20  to be a part of this important conversation and creating change in our community. The Zoom link to join the conversation and more information will be sent as we get closer to the date. If you have questions or need more information, email Sandra Torres at  [email protected]

“May the God, the source of hope, fill you with joy and peace in the faith, so that your hope may increase by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13
