Town seeks feedback on

south Oakville zoning regulations

An online survey about the zoning regulations is open to the public until August 14, 2023.


The Town of Oakville has initiated a review of South Oakville Residential Zoning By-law, looking at the zoning regulations for detached and semi-detached homes located on properties zoned “Residential Low” (RL) south of Dundas Street to assess and provide more clarity around regulations for new homes, upgrades and renovations. 


"Council and I need to know if you find our zoning bylaw too rigid or not rigid enough, and if it needs to be easier to understand and work with. We need to hear about your experience and your expectations so we can get it right or leave it alone."- Mayor Rob Burton

CCAH Emancipation Day event

at QEPCCC a huge success

The Canadian Caribbean Association of Halton and the Oakville Chamber of Commerce hosted an Emancipation Day Proclamation and CCAH Community & Harmony Garden opening at Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre.


The event was a great success and doubled as both an Emancipation Day celebration and an unveiling of the CCAH Community & Harmony Garden opening.


The Community & Harmony Garden is a project created by the Canadian Caribbean Association of Halton and supported by the Oakville Community Foundation. 


The garden allows Oakville residents sign up for FREE garden plots to grow flowers, fruits, and/or vegetables.

Mayor Burton and Councillor Marc Grant were on site at Town Hall to proclaim August as Black African Caribbean Appreciation Month in the Town of Oakville.

to Downtown Oakville

Mayor Burton joined members of the Downtown BIA community and residents to welcome Montagio Custom Tailor as the newest business opening in Downtown Oakville.


"I want to extend my congratulations to the entire Montagio team for bringing their passion to our community," Mayor Burton said in conclusion to the ribbon cutting.

Oakville Family Ribfest

 2023 recap

Heat warnings and some rain did not deter the thousands who attended the Oakville Family Ribfest held over three days during the last weekend of July on the Sheridan College Trafalgar Campus. Ribfest has been at Sheridan since 2012.


This year Oakville's largest outdoor event was organized by three Oakville service clubs: the Rotary Club of Oakville Trafalgar, Oakville Lions Club and the Knights of Columbus Marian Council 3881. The service clubs ensure that all proceeds go to charities.

Oakville Terry Fox Run

calls for volunteers

Oakville’s Terry Fox Run organizing committee is calling all volunteers. 


2023 marks the 43rd annual Terry Fox Run for cancer research, and it needs all hands on deck on Run day.  


The Oakville Run needs volunteers on Run day in a variety of roles, from marshalling along the Run route and ensuring the safety of participants, staffing the registration table, helping with food service and t-shirt sales, to set up and clean up.  


To volunteer, please complete the Oakville Terry Fox Volunteer Form, and a volunteer coordinator will contact you.

Region helps summer businesses launch in Burlington, Oakville, Milton, Halton Hills

A program that helps young people in Oakville, Burlington, Milton and Halton Hills start and run their own business has seen several successful start-ups this summer.



The Summer Company program helps enterprising students between the ages of 15 and 29 get their start in the world of small business.


The Halton Region Small Business Centre is the local coordinator of the provincial program that provides funding of up to $3,000 as well as the support of experienced business advisors from the community.

Regional Auto Theft Task Force

Makes Arrests

The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) Auto Theft Task Force has concluded a lengthy investigation into an organized international stolen auto network.


In February 2023 investigators executed search warrants at locations in Burlington and Mississauga and arrested two male suspects.


Details of those charges is contained in the initial media release (below).


Continuing investigative efforts have led to additional charges and the recovery of more stolen vehicles.

Biden administration taking new actions to boost housing affordability and availability

The Biden administration on Thursday announced further steps to lower housing costs and boost supply, part of the economic agenda that President Joe Biden will highlight as he seeks a second term.


The administration is taking a “comprehensive federal approach,” White House domestic policy adviser Neera Tanden told reporters, toward improving affordability for both homeowners and renters.


The newly announced plan will leverage three separate areas toward achieving this goal: Easing land use and zoning rules, expanding financing and promoting the conversion of commercial to residential space.

A new community-led initiative in the Region of Waterloo has revealed plans to build thousands of new homes and put them on the market for half-price.



A collaboration between local non-profits, developers, and community partners, the BUILD NOW: Waterloo Region project aims to construct 10,000 new affordable and attainable homes by 2030.

Ontario Breaks Ground on Long-Term Care Home in First Nation Community


Construction is underway on a new Elder care home to be operated by the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte in Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory, a First Nation community on the shore of the Bay of Quinte. This is part of the Ontario government’s $6.4 billion commitment to build more than 30,000 new beds by 2028 and 28,000 upgraded long-term care beds across the province.

Applications are now being accepted for the $2,500 Digital Transformation Grants! Applications will be accepted until September 30, 2023, or until funds are fully exhausted. There are a limited number of grants available, so businesses are encouraged to apply early!

 

It is free to apply and the process is simple:

 

  1. Register your business at digitalmainstreet.ca/ontariogrants/ and complete the digital assessment.
  2. Pass the pre-qualification quiz, complete the 2.5 hours of online training, and develop your Digital Transformation Plan.
  3. Apply for a $2,500 grant.
