An Update on Our

Companion Synods

Our congregation is deeply concerned about our companion synod in Haiti following the recent earthquake.

We hope to have a more detailed report next week, but our Global Mission Table from the Florida-Bahamas Synod is working closely with the Lutheran Church in Haiti and has already provided money to assist them in feeding and caring for the victims of the numerous catastrophes in Haiti at this time.

We are also working with another of our companion synods, in Suriname. They have an active program for gender equality and helping women involved in domestic abuse. Our synod has provided $3000 toward a shelter for families who have suffered abuse. They are organizing a seminar for church leaders and congregations in the fall to further address the needs in their communities

If you are interested in joining the Mission Outreach committee, please contact Fred O'Brien at [email protected].

It's time for the final Choral Reading Session of the summer! You're invited to attend the third Community Choral Reading Session at Hope Lutheran Church's southern property on September 1st, beginning at 6:00pm.

Please note that this event will be held on the undeveloped Southern Site property located at the intersection of Meggison Road and the future Frazier Court, just northwest of the traffic circle off Warm Springs Blvd.

Look for the Hope Lutheran Church sign!

Come see where Hope's new property will be and enjoy an evening of song with your friends, old and new. Since this event will be held outdoors, please come prepared. Bring folding chairs or golf carts and bug spray, as well as any food or drink you like. No refreshments will be provided at this event. A tent and restroom facilities will be available! This event is weather-permitting. No rain date has been set.

Prayers for Hope

Prayers For Hope meets on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month at 10:00am on Zoom. Our group time is spent studying prayer, followed by a time of silence, a prayer form exemplified for all of us by Jesus, and the lifting of joys and concerns for the congregation.

In our next meeting, we will continue our study on forms of silent prayer, the first step for many in the road to contemplative prayer.

Passcode: 264375

If you have any questions, contact Pastor John or the church office.

H.O.P.E. University Begins September 15th

H.O.P.E. U.png

As our students head back to school, it's time for Hope members to hit the books, as well! H.O.P.E. University Fall Semester begins September 15th, with a class called "Go Take a Hike" led by Pastor Dean Piper.

Go Take a Hike will explore the footsteps of many Biblical heroes and their explorations through new and unknown territories in the Promised Land. Hundreds of years before Jesus sent the disciples to the far-flung places of the earth, God was choosing leaders and sending them to establish and maintain “the promised land.”

Each week we will concentrate on the footsteps of one, two or more people, construct a geographic overview and see the results of their endeavors. While God directed many people to go take a hike, we will focus on a famous few.

More information on H.O.P.E. U is coming soon! Stay tuned for full class schedules and brochures. As always, we encourage you to invite friends who are not Hope members. This is an excellent opportunity to grow your faith and fellowship with friends.

Thank you to everyone who donated to the Hope Lake Weir Campus Food Pantry Back-To-School Shoe Drive!

Because of your generosity, our Food Pantry was able to donate over 150 pairs of new school shoes to students in need. Our Food Pantry volunteers have just wrapped up distributing the shoes, and our students are heading back to school with confidence.

Hope Crafters Seeking Donations and Volunteers

Hope bear.jpg

Our Crafters have been busy making bears, sweaters, lap robes, prayer shawls, and other items for people in need. Now their cupboards are getting empty and they need your help!

If you have cotton fabric or yarn to share, our Crafters would appreciate the donation. There is a box in the Information Hallway labeled Crafters, in which you may leave your items.

If you are a knitter or crocheter, the Crafters teams could use your skills making the little sweaters that dress our Sojourn Bears. Please contact Donna Walker at (352) 753-8618 for more information, patterns, and samples.
