194 Students Attend Potter's Wheel Camp (PWC)
"See, it is I who created the blacksmith who fans the coals into flame and forges a weapon fit for its work." Isaiah 54:16a
Campfire worship was a time for drawing near to God

Students completing 4th-5th and 6th-7th grade gathered for camps at the Baptist Village. There were about 100 students, plus counselors and support staff at each week's camp. A team from Maranatha Chapel, San Diego, CA, helped with week one; and, a team from Dallas Baptist University served during week two.

Zaher Haddad and Rani Saba, Camp Directors and their teams kept the focus on spiritual growth, fellowship, and fun through the daily lessons which centered around: Day 1) Sin and the need for salvation; Day 2) Jesus the Sacrifice; Day 3) Salvation through Jesus; and Day 4) Growing in Christ and Sharing with others. The Message was introduced through lessons and dramas

Every day an invitation was extended, and according to the counselors, tens of
children responded by praying and asking questions. Many of them came and
met in person with the counselors for more details and prayers. During week one, on the last night, more than 15 children shared publicly about their decisions for Christ.

It was through the generous scholarships of Friends of Nazareth supporters that tuition was reduced significantly, allowing about 30% more children to attend the two camps than in previous years. Please continue to pray for Camp 2 that is in session as this Newsletter is released.

See the Photo Journal section of this Newsletter for additional insights into the camp experience. Thank you again Camp Sponsors! Also visit the FON Facebook page and NBS website, for additional reporting and photos.

15 NBS Students and one NBS Graduate Experience Young Life (YL) Camp in America
2013 YL Team
NBS YL Team at Windy Gap Camp and Conference Center, near Asheville, NC (USA)
Hunter and Lauri Lambeth, YL leaders at NBS, chaperoned fifteen NBS students and one NBS graduate, Catie Shehadeh, on a whirlwind trip to the USA in July. Students were from Christian and Muslim backgrounds.
The purpose - and highlight of the trip - was to meet with other youth from around the world at Young Life's Windy Gap Camp near Asheville, NC. Prior to arriving at Windy Gap Camp the group visited New York City; traveled to Orlando where they were hosted by families of Northland Church (a NBS partner) and attended worship; and stopped in Atlanta where they had time to tour the Coca Cola Museum.
Young Life incorporates the Christian message into a camping experience that involves high adventure, lots of fun, great food and excellent speakers who understand and respect high school and middle school kids. During the daytime, the students experienced horseback riding, zip lining, volleyball and a host of other fun and stimulating activities. One of the extra-curricular daytime activities included the group representing NBS and the City of Nazareth in an all-camp volleyball tournament - great fun and team building experience!
At night the group gathered for "club". The was a time for singing, watching skits and hearing the Gospel message in a refreshing way. The students heard about Jesus, who loves them, understands them, pursues them and wants more than anything to have a relationship with them. After each Gospel message, leaders and students gathered to dig deeper into the speaker's words. At the end of the week, many of the NBS students renewed their faith and others encountered Christ in relationship for the first time. It was a life changing week! One student summed the experience as "the best week of my life".
Hunter and Lauri, along with Catie, are excited to continue loving and discipling these precious souls as the new school year begins at NBS. Please join them in praying that these students will not only grow deeper in their love and knowledge of Jesus Christ, but also that the students will help other students find a relationship with Jesus Christ.
Land Update
Say Hallelujah and Keep Praying!

Proposed land site at Mashariff
We are pleased to report that all requirements by the Nazareth Municipality for rezoning of land at Mashariff have been met. This means that the finalized plans for relocating the Nazareth Baptist School to Mashariff, a new community connected to Nazareth, have been submitted and received, without objection, by the engineering department of Nazareth Municipality and the Regional Committee for planning and construction.

The Municipality posted the notice for "Olive Grove" Educational Space at Mashariff in the newspaper on August 9, 2013. This notice must run in the paper(s) for 60 days. The notice states that this specific land is rezoned to Educational purposes. Any objections from the public must be submitted during these upcoming 60 days. This is the phase that we have been waiting to see happen. After the next 60 days, provided there are no objections, part of the land will be allocated to NBS. Please keep these meetings in your prayers.

Mashariff, when fully developed, will have over 2000 new homes, a light rail station connecting Nazareth with Haifa, some light industrial areas, as well as a retail and restaurant area. It will be a fully developed community with new access roads to Nazareth.

We are thankful to Mayor Ramez Jaraisy for his untiring effort to see this project approved. His friendship to the Nazareth Baptist School is appreciated. We are thankful to our "Friends of Nazareth" partners that are praying and giving to see the school grow spiritually, academically and numerically as a lighthouse for Jesus.

Naeem Barhoum, Woroud Door and Riyad Haddad have spent countless hours preparing documents and responding to detailed requests. Their efforts have not gone unnoticed. Most importantly, God, in His time, continues to answer the prayers of His people for the school.

The vision for a "golden shovel" ceremony before the end of 2013 is within view. Keep praying!
Letter from FON Executive Director

 Dr. Dick Thomassian

Dear "Friends of Nazareth" Partners in Ministry,

God is good all the time!  Blessed be His name! Thank you so much for being a FON prayer partner. The month of September will be the third year for Friends of Nazareth to devote 30 days of effectual fervent prayer for the Nazareth Baptist School.  Your prayers will be such a blessing.

Please check your inbox, starting on September 1, 2013, for the daily devotion and prayer guide. The 2013 devotional writings originated from NBS' values, each of which is based upon a Biblical source. This year's writers represent a host of people from all walks of life who have a love for the Nazareth Baptist School. Each writing is unique. Enjoy spending time with God through His Word and the lens of these writers!

In preparation for the September 1-30, 2013 prayer emphasis, please pray for . . .

  • Enrichment in life and ministry of the school and local churches.
  • A heart of love for all people.
  • A filling with the Holy Spirit.
  • Proficiency in use of languages - 3 languages are used at NBS - Arabic, Hebrew and English. This is a challenge for teachers, students and visitors.
  • Patience.
  • Health in soul and body for the staff and the children.
  • Wisdom in every decision.
  • Provision of finances.
  • A hedge of spiritual protection around the school.

God is at work in the NBS-FON partnership. May God bless you as you continue to stand up and be counted as a faithful prayer warrior and a financial steward.

On Mission for Christ,

Brother Dick

Main Campus Renovation Update

The NBS campus has a fresh look. With the help of the Parent's Association, partners and mission teams, the renovation work is nearing completion in time for the new school year when more than 800 students will fill the classrooms at the main campus; another 200 will meet a few blocks away in a rented complex. The main campus building is suited for an occupancy of about 250.
