August 2017 Newsletter
A message from the Superintendent
Welcome back! Santa Rosa City Schools has 25 schools, including yours. Some information is unique to each school. But there are other news items that affect us all. That's what we'll share with you here. Please look for this newsletter in your email box each month. If you are on social media, we invite you to join us there, too. @SRCSchools #SRCStogether.

Looking forward to a terrific year!

New way to see grades, attendance
Illuminate Ed Home Connection Login page
Our school district has a new student information system and that means a new way for parents to get information about their child's grades, attendance, test scores and more. The Home Access Center (HAC) has been replaced by Illuminate Education's Home Connection Parent Portal. Teachers and administrators are getting access to the new system during the first weeks of school. Parents will receive access codes via email and regular mail, and should be able to login by the end of August. Thanks for your patience as we make this important change!
Save the date for back-to-school night
Parents in a classroom with a teacher
Meet teachers, check out classrooms, learn what students will be learning, and get information about resources for families. Make the connection at this year’s back-to-school nights:
Elementary – Thursday, August 31
Middle School – Wednesday, September 6
High School – Thursday, September 14
Schools have different start times for their back-to-school nights. Check with your school!

Important links for bus transportation
West County Transportation school bus

Who can ride the school bus? Elementary students who live more than 1 mile from school, and middle and high school students who live more than 3 miles. Special education students, too. Visit the West County Transportation Agency website for more information. To see where the buses stop, find your school on this list of bus routes.
Meal applications: more than a free lunch
Lunch line
Did you know that the number of meal applications that are returned and approved can affect how much funding your school gets - to not only provide healthy meals but also to help students in other ways, including providing materials like books and computers? The only way we can be sure that we are reaching every family is to collect a meal application from every family. The information on the forms is used only in the school district. We do not share it. For help filling out an application, call 707-528-5359 or go to the  Child Nutrition Services website.
Summer campus updates
Shabby classroom before remodel
clean classroom after remodel
In addition to the technology, roofing, heating and air conditioning work at many schools, thanks to bond money from Measures I & L, our Maintenance and Operations (M&O) department was busy with other projects this summer. About a dozen classrooms at Piner and Montgomery High Schools were refreshed with paint, carpet and ceiling tiles. These pictures show the transformation of one portable, from an unusable space to an inviting classroom. Five classrooms at Hidden Valley Elementary also received a thorough cleaning and fresh coat of paint. Several gymnasium floors have been refinished; and several campuses, including Rincon Valley Middle and Lincoln Elementary, have newly repaved and re-striped play areas and parking lots.
