Message From the Executive Director of SBCCOG
For many years the SBCCOG has been encouraging South Bay residents to upgrade their homes with energy and water efficiency in mind. Many want to make those changes but paying s appfor them has been a barrier. In this issue of our SBESC e-newsletter, be sure to read the article announcing the Residential Energy Efficiency Loan (REEL) Program, a State of California program developed to help California reach its aggressive clean energy goals and reduce climate pollution. The program allows lenders to offer attractive financing, so homeowners can improve the energy efficiency and comfort of their homes. The REEL program offers some benefits not found in similar loan products such as ability to finance 100% of the project costs; part of the loan (up to 30%) can be used to fund home improvements like landscaping, painting, roof, bathroom remodeling, and some appliances qualify. Another of the program's many features is that no liens or tax assessments are made against your home, and no home equity is needed.
Check it out! And enjoy the end of summer!

Southern California Edison
State Grid Operators Prepared to Manage Power Flows During Solar Eclipse
The Southland will experience a partial solar eclipse on Aug. 21 that will affect Southern California Edison's service territory, obscuring 58 to 76 percent of the sun's light for about three hours in the morning (9 a.m.-noon).
That may sound like it will substantially darken the sky, but the effect will be more like a cloudy or overcast day and should not impact the daily activities of Southland residents.
But for the California Independent System Operator staff responsible for balancing the flow of power on the state's electrical grid, planning for the event began months ago.

LADWP
Start a Waterwise Garden with the Help of LADWP
The water resources of Los Angeles are limited and we all need to do our part meeting the current and future water needs of residential, commercial and agricultural uses. With water conservation in mind, there is a need for waterwise, drought-tolerant landscaping in Los Angeles. Please review the beautiful example landscapes shown on this website and know that water intensive turf can play a role in the landscape, but should not be the focal point.
