Schools of nursing selected to receive funding for 2018 White Coat Ceremonies
The Gold Foundation is pleased to announce 50 schools of nursing across the United States that will receive funding to host their inaugural White Coat Ceremony for incoming nursing students this fall. In collaboration with the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, and thanks to the generous funding support from Board member Elaine Adler, the Gold Foundation has supported 310 schools of nursing in their first White Coat Ceremonies since 2013. 2018 Humanism in Medicine Award at the AAMC to go to Dr. Mark Garry
Mark T. Garry, MD, head of psychiatric education at the Rapid City Regional Behavioral Health Center and assistant professor at the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine, has been selected by the AAMC Organization of Student Representatives (OSR) to receive the 2018 Arnold P. Gold Foundation Humanism in Medicine Award at the AAMC. Read more about Dr. Garry and the approach that led students to nominate and select him for this award. 

Dr. Richard L. Cruess, Chairman of the Gold Foundation for Humanistic Healthcare, Canada, and Dr. Sylvia R. Cruess were selected to receive the 2018 Abraham Flexner Award for Distinguished Service to Medical Education. Both awards will be presented in November at the AAMC Annual Meeting. Congratulations to Drs. Cruess and Dr. Garry!

GHHS Golden Glimmers No. 2: Share an uplifting photo
Following a successful Golden Glimmers No. 1: Haiku initiative that shared advice for new medical students in the form of poems, the Gold Humanism Honor Society is launching its second themed initiative. This time, the call is for uplifting photos. Photographs can include health and wellness, landscapes, wildlife, travel, humor, pets and much more. First-year medical student at Baylor offers reflections on his first white coat
Trevor Jamison, a first-year medical student at Baylor College of Medicine, wrote about the excitement of receiving his first white coat and his new "Keeping Healthcare Human" pin: "The very name of the pin is evocative: it is a memento reminding us that though we still have so much to learn about the practice of medicine, we all still have an opportunity to form a profound connection with patients and offer them some measure of comfort."
