New LED Lighting Demo event - Begins August 23rd

Come on by S1 to check out all the new additions to the S1 LED Department. This will include lights from new brands like Astera, Aputure and NanGuang, as well as additions to lines S1 already carries like, LiteGear, Litepanels, Kino Flo, Arri and more! All will be set up in the Display area and available for live demo / testing. Some very cool new items, as well as Weather ratings or battery powered units.

Come by anytime Mon - Fri 8am to 5pm,  Sat 9am - 1pm and check them out starting August 23rd.

S1 Award of Excellence - Justin Atkins of Sheridan College

Congratulations to Justin Atkins for winning the S1 Award of Excellence 2018, for graduating students at Sheridan College. Justin is a Toronto based image maker interested in celebrity, fashion, and fine art photography. Justin receives an award for approx $2500 in Services, as well as a matching award from District 28 for Studios. The purpose is to create new work for the freshly minted photographers portfolio.
In Justin's images, he focuses on elevating his subjects to become idealized archetypes and iconic heroes. Using extensive digital manipulation and image composite techniques, he investigates the opportunities of surreal computerized realities. Later this year, Justin is relocating to London, UK.

New TSA procedure requires cameras to be placed in a separate bin

Photographers who fly frequently in the US may want to finally pay for TSA Pre-check status. New rules state that in standard security lines, cameras will need to be placed in a separate bin for screening. According to new procedures announced by the TSA today, any electronic device larger than a cell phone will need to be removed from its case or bag and placed in a bin with nothing above or below it.

How many times have you tried to take a picture through a pane of glass, only to have it ruined by reflections and glare? Josh Smith experienced these difficulties while on a trip to Japan in 2015 and decided to do something about it. His invention, the Ultimate Lens Hood (ULH)  is an expandable silicon cone that allows for greater flexibility in photography.


Fujifilm is Exploring the Possibility of Bringing Back Its Black & White Films

Not so long ago, the news of Fujifilm killing off its famed Acros 100 black and white film  sent many of us scrambling for available stocks. The emulsion in 35mm and 120 formats will be officially discontinued in October this year. And yet, Fujifilm was recently reported to be looking into the possibility of bringing back its black and white films.

Aputure LS C300d LED Light

The Aputure LS C300d is a powerful daylight (5500K) LED fixture. With a comparable output to a 2K tungsten or 400w HMI. The light can be powered by either standard AC or with 2x V-Mount batteries that mount on the included V mount plates. The included wireless remote allows full functionality up to 150m away making it easy to adjust when rigged on set.


Aputure LS-mini20c 3-Light Kit

The LS-mini20c LED light is bi-colour from 3200K - 6500K. It has a comparable output to a 150w tungsten. The built in Fresnel style lens allows you to change the beam angle from 20°-80°. The LS-mini20c can run on batteries (optional) with the included battery mounting option. Great for those small accents, or when you don't want to run AC.
