PPAS Campus News
August 2018
Vol. 7, No. 4
It was "Back to School" at PPAS on August 6, as teenagers from 11 countries kicked off the 2018-2019 school year with great expectations. While enrollment may be down from last year, due partly to education visa challenges, the 123 Eagles who are currently on campus are adventurous and ready to soar. (More students are expected to arrive soon.) Please join us in giving thanks to God, and praying for our students who hail from China, Colombia, Germany, Guatemala, Hungary, Kenya, Mexico, Rwanda, South Korea, Spain, and the United States.
Making a SPLASH!
What better way to make new friends than to douse them with water in the spirit of fun and fellowship? Thanks to Campus Ministry Council, our kids dove into the new school year with SPLASH on Saturday, August 18. The water balloon tosses, spray fights, bucket dumps, and water gun tags are an annual relief to the South Texas heat. And, the merriment culminated in a pool party. Folks on the other side of Kingsville probably heard the laughter and screaming coming from our campus!
Raising Up Convocation of Eagles on God's Word
Bilingual Bible Presentation
Did you know that a group of eagles is called a convocation? It’s perfect, then, that we begin each year with a Convocation Service, gathering the incoming student body together formally for the first time. The highlight is presenting new students, whatever grade they’re in, with a parallel bi-lingual Bible. It features two columns, one in English, and one in the student’s native language. A “ gift that keeps on giving,” these Bibles enable our youth to work on their English comprehension as they strengthen their relationship with God. Pictured with Pastor Eric, our new Director of Spiritual life, is 10th grader Jesus Fernando Pardo of Comalcalco, Tabasco, Mexico.
Greeting Cards Bridge Generations and Miles
Before this year’s Eagles were packing their belongings.to move, a group of young children sent well wishes to them. Earlier in the summer, Director of Development Signe Fredrickson taught children participating in Vacation Bible School at St. Mark Presbyterian Church in Boerne, TX about PPAS. During craft time, she invited the kids to make greeting cards for our Pan Am youth. “The young ones were in awe that a teenager from another country, who they had never met, would receive and enjoy their art work,” said Ms. Fredrickson. The smiles on our students’ faces show how the cards (and attached candy) brightened the beginning of their school year.

Once a PPAS Eagle, Always a PPAS Eagle
The Class of 1998, along with their families and members of surrounding classes, gathered on campus July 13-15 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their graduation from PPAS. Themed “A Gathering of Eagles,” the event was true to Pan Am culture, as it provided opportunities for memory sharing and making, fellowship, worship, and mission. Thanks to this group’s generosity, we will soon have a new soccer scoreboard. No matter how long our former students have been gone, campus will always feel like home.
