Family Business

We hope you enjoy the 2018 first edition of our newsletter, Family Business! The Office of First Year Experience and Retention Programs staff has been hard at work over the summer preparing for your student’s arrival to FGCU. Over the next two semesters, you will receive a copy of Family Business to help you navigate your transition to FGCU, while also learning how to help your student be successful in their own transition. These once-a-month newsletters will be filled with timely information on what your student may be going through as they travel through their first year at FGCU. We hope to give you some things to think about, as well as information and advice on how to best support your student through the ups and downs of roommate conflicts and new relationships, new and challenging academic requirements and how to navigate the wonderful world of making FGCU a new home! We hope you find the first installment of Family Business helpful. Enjoy!

FERPA:
The Other "F" Word

Before the semester officially begins, take some time to discuss with your student about filling out a FERPA Third-Party Authorization form. Explain to them why you feel it may be important for you to have access to their academic information (other than because you pay the bills). Having a mature and respectful adult conversation will make all the difference to your student (especially because THEY have to fill out and submit the form), making it easier for you to stay connected as well!

For more information about FERPA regulations, contact the Office of the Registrar at: 239.590.7980
or
Are you an Authorized User?

Becoming an Authorized user in the Bill & Payment Center will allow you to receive notifications whenever there is a payment posted/due on your student’s Gulfline account! Receiving these notifications will allow payments to be made on time (because we all know how forgetful students can be) and will prevent sneaky holds from being placed on your student’s accounts that can interfere with future course registration.

To become an authorized user, your student needs to log-in to Gulfline and follow these simple steps: 1. Log-in to Gulfline 2. Click Bill & Payment Center from the Main Menu 3. Click My Account in the top left corner 4. Click Authorized User on the right from the menu.
