SANDY'S SPOTLIGHT
WBT-1 PORTABLE ELECTRIC SCISSORS

Electric scissors aren’t for everyone. BUT, if you do a lot of cutting you may want to consider this bad boy! I must admit that I was skeptical about using these scissors because my rotary cutter works fine, thank you very much. Except that I have cut myself twice, yes TWICE, in the last month. Lots of blood with the last cut and I should have had stitches, but I just couldn’t tell my hubby that I had cut myself again. He never asked what was under that double band aid! If I had been using these scissors instead of a rotary cutter, I wouldn't have cut my finger.

Back to these scissors. They are really pretty cool to use. They cut like a knife through butter! Oh my! You can use them on all sorts of fabrics, upholstery fabrics, leather, rubber, and even paper. It comes with a battery and charger so you can use them either cordlessly or plugged in. Either way, you will love them. These are industrial quality and lots of big companies purchase them from Sewing Machine Service. If you have a small business, or sell things through ETSY or craft bazaars, you need to use these to save some time. Be sure not to leave them lying around where a youngster might grab them because there is no locking pin on the lever. That makes it great when you need to get busy and cut! Just pick them up and cut away.

I found that they cut through several layers of cotton, so if you do lots of quilting you might just find these to be a real help. The blade is tungsten steel and will work for 8 hours without the battery needing to be recharged. They are curved so your hand fits comfortably and makes it easy to push the “go” button. I found that there was no need to have a cutting mat underneath.

I cut through 8 layers of cotton with no pulling or lugging down and through a single layer of silky polyester with no problem. Bottom line is that I would recommend purchasing these if you do lots of cutting, whether for home sewing or selling your finished product. If you are a casual sewer, and like owning all the tools available to do a job, you may want to add these to your stash. I loved testing these and you will love using them too! Why not come to the store and take these scissors home with you? They even come with an extra cutting blade!
POPPY PLAY! If you own a Bernina 790 or 880 you will want to get signed up for this technique class! You will learn a ton! Of course you don't have to make a poppy quilt....you might want to choose other colors or flowers. Contact Natalie for particulars! click here for more information and to get signed up. This will be taught by Sheryl and Natalie. Coming this September! Check out the schedule above for more details.
TIP OF THE MONTH

If you want the corners of your garments or other sewn items to be square, you will achieve the look you want by clipping away the interfacing as shown in the photo. Do this BEFORE ironing the interfacing to your fabric. Then clip the corner fabric away at an angle and when you turn it right side out, your corner will be perfect! No extra bulk in the corner!
