WORKSHOP
Fall Flora & The Artist's Book
with Guest Artist Andie Thrams

Workshop is full!

Friday evening, August 24, 6-8pm
Saturday and Sunday, August 25 and 26, 10am - 4pm
NBG Studio

Explore the elusive creative space between the careful and the wild as you create an accordion-folding book. Native flora will be used as inspiration for drawing, painting, and writing in both traditional and non-traditional ways. Directed experiments using watercolor, ink, and gouache will develop imagery and content, full of autumn magic.

Andie Thrams is a Sierra Nevada-based visual artist. A lifelong devotion to creative work in wilderness habitats, especially within the pages of her field journals, has evolved into artist's books and paintings held in private and public collections throughout the United States. Her work is widely exhibited and has been honored by institutions including the Sitka Center for Art & Ecology and Yosemite Renaissance. Andie earned a BA in art practice from the University of California at Berkeley, and she regularly teaches outdoor art workshops.

NEW DISPLAY AT UAF RASMUSON LIBRARY

A Book Artist's Library of Models

Having a library of book structures is important  to book artists. The models are reminders of binding techniques as well as inspiration for inventing structures of one's own. They are typically collected over the years, as one learns new bindings and structures in workshops, in books, on line, or  from fellow book artists.

Presented here is a selection from the  Model Library of Margo Klass. Some are structures she learned from studying with other book artists; others are models she developed for her workshops at UAF. Included in the display are Coptic bindings, board books, tacket bindings, sewings on cords, 1,2 and 3 section bindings, and the secret Belgian binding (which is really no secret at all!).

IMPRINTS UPDATE:
Many  hands at work!

Until mid-July, IMPRINTS binders continued their work sessions and accomplished a variety of tasks as we produce our edition of IMPRINTS, the first publication of Northwoods Press. Text blocks wait for the final printing of auxiliary pages as we worked on constructing the covers for our drum leaf bindings. Each work session focused on 2 or 3 set tasks.

Join us when we continue this phase of binding IMPRINTS in the fall!

Many members already receive the NBG NOTES that announce the work sessions, but if you are not receiving them and would like to, please let us know here.
