From Our President:

I hope that you are having great summer, relaxing and enjoying some family time. The days will be getting shorter as summer bids farewell to us once again. As the new school year approaches, Alabama PTA is busy preparing programs and projects for Alabama families and children. Upcoming Executive Committee and Board meetings are set for September 2018 and December 2018. We are in the process of updating Alabama PTA bylaws.
Denise Hills has been named Interim Chair of the newly formed Technology and Communications committee. Denise’s main focus is to get us all up and running on MemberHub. If you haven’t heard…all units will be required to submit dues to Alabama PTA through MemberHub. Direct your questions to Denise. alpta.tech.comm@gmail.com
Many thanks to Kim Munford, VP of Leadership Development and Denise Hills, VP of Programs, Paula Lyman, Karen Burghardt and Joy Scott for a great 2018 convention. If you were not able to attend, I hope you will add funding in your budget to attend the 2019 convention. More to come on that VERY soon! The tentative dates are May 3 & 4, 2019…Location TBA!
Donna McCurry, Immediate Past President has been receiving updated bylaws frequently now! Thanks for getting the jump on that! REMEMBER your bylaws need to be submitted for review every 3 years whether you have changes or not. THANK YOU Donna Mc!
Marvin Lucas, VP of Legislation and Advocacy is making plans for some great advocacy outreach! Be on the lookout for more information on that!
Stephanie Jackson, Health and Safety Chair is spearheading a campaign to bring recess back to Alabama schools. She will be contacting you! Let’s work together in this effort.
Treasurer Becky Vansant is available to assist you with your financial questions. Alptatreasurer@gmail.com .
Kim Munford, VP Leadership Development has plans to create training that will be accessible anywhere!
I believe communication is key to success. The Alabama PTA newsletter will go out on the 15 th of each month. Please send us your articles, meeting information, and success stories by the 5 th of each month to be included!
Membership is a way of supporting our children and our community and of course, membership has its privileges. All PTA members receive up to date information about PTA programs (both social and educational). Alabama PTA dues go to support education and child advocacy on both the state and national levels. Krissy Hayes, VP Membership will be announcing a Membership Campaign that promises to be exciting!
Please take a look at our website at  www.alabamapta.org , “Like” us on Facebook, follow us on Instagram and Twitter. These are great ways to keep apprised of the latest and greatest PTA happenings!

Your Money Do List for Incoming PTA Presidents and Treasurers

As we begin a new year, have you checked off all the items on your Money Do List for your local unit PTA?

Have you set a budget for the upcoming year for presentation and approval at your first meeting?

Did your outgoing treasurer file your 2017 tax return? Remember, the tax return for the previous year is due no later than 11/15/18.

Have all previous officers been removed from the bank account, and have your current treasurer and another officer (generally your president) been added to the account? All PTA checks should have two signatures.

Have the books from the previous year been reviewed/audited?

Have you secured your insurance for the upcoming administration?

Just a few housekeeping items to remember as you begin your new year as PTA President and Treasurer. If you have any questions or concerns about any of these items, please feel free to reach out to your Alabama PTA State Treasurer Becky Vansant at alptatreasurer@gmail.com .
