Health Corner

Hand, Foot, Mouth Disease (HFMD):

HFMD is a common childhood virus causing sores in the mouth and a rash on the hands and feet. Symptoms usually include fever, sore throat, irritability, general malaise and loss of appetite. The virus is easily transmitted. It is spread through saliva and mucus; coughing, sneezing, drooling. Since it is a virus, it has to run its course. It typically clears up on it's on within 7-10 days. Tylenol or Motrin can help to relieve the symptoms. HFMD is most contagious during the first week of the illness. HFMD can be contagious for days to weeks after symptoms disappear.
