Pastor's Message
Labor Day of Love

Jesus called them together and said, "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. 26
Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, 27 and whoever wants to be first must be your slave- 28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." Matthew 20:25-28

While Labor Day is at the beginning of September I want to encourage everyone to have Labor Day of Love on your radar. There is much about this event that is very exciting. On Sunday September 2nd we will have one worship service at 9am. For those who were enthusiastic about having one service we will have that opportunity for united worship on that day.

Right after worship we will be joined by church members and hopefully some community members to go into the community and serve. The sites are currently being collected and organized. If you have a project idea or contact please let the church office know. In just a week or two we will have firmed up our work sites and have a sign-up sheet so we can have groups formed ahead of time so that people know what to come prepared to do. Projects will include things such as painting at some of our area schools, picking up trash, helping at EChO, Sr. Resource Center, splitting wood, home repairs, and others.

This will be a wonderful witness to Evergreen of unity between several of our Christian churches, and the heart of our churches to serve our community. We are living in a time when America is becoming increasingly secular and carrying negative attitudes toward organized religion. This is a great opportunity for our neighbors see our love in action.

This is also a unique opportunity to invite unchurched friends to serve with you. It might be just the type of event where they might say "yes", and then have the opportunity to see the heart of Christ as they work side by side with the body of Christ. Start thinking about who you might ask and plant the seed in their mind about participating in this event.

I look forward to serving Evergreen with you as we "proclaim the love of Jesus Christ is all we do for the Glory of God."

Blessings,

Pastor Philip Reimers

Mission Trip to Uganda
Pastor Philip

Have you considered if God might be calling you to a short-term mission trip?  It is an experience like no other.  It opens your eyes to the greater needs of people less fortunate that ourselves.  It opens your eyes to the contentment, joy, and hopefulness of people who have far less.  It opens your eyes to brothers and sisters who may look different and have a far different culture but who share the same love for Jesus that we have.  There are several different times we could consider going.  Thanksgiving break November 19-30, Christmas break December 26-Jan 4, or early summer June 3-14.  These dates are all a general guess but planned around school calendar so you could attend with parents if that would be of interest.  The cost would vary depending on dates selected.  A pretty good estimate of cost for each time would be; November $2500, December $2900, and June $3100.  This would include all major hard expenses; flight, ground transportation, lodging, and food.  Please let pastor know if you would be interested in this trip and which possible times would work for you.  We need to determine if we have enough interest soon so we can begin to make plans.
Love Offering
Each month we will highlight an outreach or special ministry. Loose cash offerings and designated offerings will be given directly to those ministry opportunities.

August Love Offering
Pioneers- Shaun Boa and wife Sarah, Chinese Christian Missionaries to the business community of Beijing, receive donations through Pioneers. For more than 35 years, Pioneers' passion has been to see God glorified among those who are physically and spiritually isolated from the gospel. These donations help Shaun and Sarah reach those isolated people in China, a place where your life could be in danger for preaching and worshiping our Lord Jesus Christ.

Prayer Walk
Gloria Owens

The Evangelism Committee wishes to thank the Property Committee for their hard work with the prayer walk upgrade. It looks so good and we thank you for all you did. The Children of Day Camp enjoyed each day learning the Lords Prayer, talking about the burial ground and sharing their prayers and concerns. These precious children learned the Lords Prayer, ASK (Asking, Seeking, Knocking) and thanking God for their daily bread. These little ones are our future prayers. We Praise God for the little children!
LCC Library
Linda Mohrmann

Let's keep that summer feeling going through the month of August! This month's featured book is Great Stories For Kids Vol. 1 by Jerry D. Thomas. This book is "entertaining and teaches about self-esteem, dealing with fear, making choices, and many more issues that children face." These are ideal stories to read to children or have them read. Children's books are on the office shelves.
As always, you are appreciated for your donations to the LCC library and for taking advantage of all it has to offer. We need good teen
books to add to our library so if you have any that could be donated we would be most appreciative.
Happy summer and happy reading!

Featured Book found in the War Room on the fireplace.
Prayer Warriors
Cheryl Touryan

There will be a break in our weekly meetings until after Labor Day. However, there will not be a break in our prayers, so please let Gloria Owens or Cheryl Touryan know if you have prayer requests during this time.
