Children's Events - August 2019
In observance of Labor Day, the library will be closed on the following days:

Fall Hours will begin on Tuesday, September 3.

Family Movie
Friday, August 16
7 to 9 p.m.

Ace detective Harry Goodman goes mysteriously missing, prompting his 21-year-old son, Tim, to find out what happened. Aiding in the investigation is Harry's former Pokémon partner, wise-cracking, adorable super-sleuth Detective Pikachu. Finding that they are uniquely equipped to work together, as Tim is the only human who can talk with Pikachu, they join forces to unravel the tangled mystery.

Rated PG

One adult must remain at the library with each family group for the duration of the program. 
Act!vated Storytellers: Tuneful Tales

Act!vated Storytellers Tuneful Tales Family Program is presented by professional performers and features witty scripts, costumes, imaginative props, nonstop action, American Sign Language, physical comedy, audience participation and on occasion music, song and dance, masks and puppets. All set before a gigantic oversized book that encourages reading and promotes a love of literature.

*A pre-show workshop at 10 a.m. for up to 12 "guest stars" (ages 6 and up) who will be cast to play parts in the 10:30pm Activated Story Theatre show. Guest stars must attend a half-hour rehearsal/ workshop before the show begins to learn their roles. Registration is required to be guest stars in the show. Call the Children's Department (978-929-6655, ext. 4) for more information. 
Afternoon Movie
Thursday, August 22
2 to 4 p.m.

Inspired by the imagination of P. T. Barnum, The Greatest Showman is an original musical that celebrates the birth of show business and tells of a visionary who rose from nothing to create a spectacle that became a worldwide sensation.

Rated PG

One adult must remain at the library with each family group for the duration of the program.

Is My Child Old Enough to be Alone in the Library?

C hildren under 8 may not be left unattended at the library. 

Children under the age of 8 must be accompanied by a responsible person 15 years or older. 

Caregivers shall be responsible for supervising the child and for insuring that the child complies with the library behavior guidelines.

Children 8 and older may be left unattended at the discretion of their parent(s) for a period of time not to exceed the hours listed below:
  • Ages 8-10: 1 hour
  • Ages 11-12: 2 hours
  • Ages 13-14: 3 hours
