Lady Moran
Distance Education has identified its new Director! Amor Moran has been with the department for one year as an Instructional Technology Support Manger and Interim Director. She came to APSU after 9 years of service as a weather officer in the United States Air Force and 2 years as a Department of Defense Staff Meteorologist and contractor. Amor holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Atmospheric Sciences from the University of Washington, a Master’s in Emergency and Disaster Management from American Military University, and a Master’s degree in Education Learning Design and Technology from Purdue University.

DIGITAL LEARNING CIRCLE
What is that we do here in Distance Education? Our department specializes in digital learning needs of faculty and students. We are a team of professionals focused on customer service and quality output. The DE Circle showcases the key focus areas in our department. We provide Instructional Design services that lead to quality courses, Instructional Technology acquisition, implementation, and support, LMS support, and Special Projects such as TN eCampus, Winter Term, and NC-SARA compliance. We’re happy to collaborate with faculty and staff on ways we can contribute to your student success goals and initiatives.

APSU is in partnership with D2L until contract expiration in December 2021.

During the Fall 2019 semester, APSU faculty will have access to on-demand and live D2L training through the Brightspace Community. You can choose from tiered training content (beginner, intermediate and advanced), get started quickly with recommended content playlists, keep up to date with What's New Sessions, and more.

DISTANCE EDUCATION
COURSE REVIEW PROCESS
The Department of Distance Education (DE) is committed to the quality of online and hybrid courses offered at Austin Peay State University (APSU) and aims to achieve the following targets:

  • Identify and fund training for online/hybrid Instructors to become certified Quality Matters (QM) peer reviewers.

  • Facilitate reviews and continuous improvement of high impact courses* to ensure alignment with QM standards.

To work towards these targets, DE is seeking faculty to participate in our course review process. Faculty who complete the course review process will receive compensation and professional development. DE will also select courses to submit to QM for external reviews. These courses will obtain an official QM seal of quality.

FACULTY TRAVEL STIPEND
Travel stipends up to $1,000 can be requested by full-time or adjunct faculty who present or apply to present at regional, national, or international conferences related to digital teaching practices, instructional technology, or online/distance/hybrid teaching and learning. Applications will be considered regardless of acceptance to present; however, you will be asked to verify attempting to present at the conference.

Have you heard about our GETTING STARTED module? Our team of instructional designers have revamped the Getting Started module in D2L and made it better than ever. This module is filled with resources and materials to get you and your students off on the right foot with your D2L course.
