A Message from the Director

Fall semester officially starts next week.  EPICentre  has been busy cooking up programs and events to welcome students back to campus the past couple of months.  
Application for the  2 nd   Libro EPIC Social Enterprise Pitch Competition is now  open . Selected applicants will pitch their ideas to a panel of judges on September 19 th , 2019. Up to four social enterprises will be selected to participate in the  four-month  Libro EPIC Social Enterprise Program  starting October 2019.  
The Windsor Mold Group EPIC Makers Base   will reopen for fall semester on September 9 th , 2019, after going through space reconfiguration this month. We also just launched a new Facebook group @WindsorMoldGroupEPICMakersBase  to share updates and activities of  the  makerspace.  We'd also like to welcome Ethan Raymond to our team as EPIC Makers' Base Student Lead starting this fall.
EPICentre  will be launching a  few  new initiatives later this year.  The EPIC Legal Triage program, in partnership with Professor Myra Tawfik from Faculty of Law will provide  EPICentre's   startups  with legal assessment services. W e have  also  partnered with the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (FAHSS) to offer course credit to students enrolled in the Ways of Doing course for completing the  EPIC Discovery Program .  As   part of the  Windsor-Essex Women Emerge Initiative (WE WEI) led by the Windsor Essex Economic Development Corporation (WEEDC)  that is funded by the Government of Canada's  Women Entrepreneurship Strategy EPICentre  will be  launching a new program to support women-led  startups  in emerging technolog ies  in  W inter 2019 . Stay tuned for details of the program.    
Finally, we would like to welcome UWindsor Developer Student Club (DSC) to the E PICentre's  community.  EPICentre  will provide the h omebase  to students in the DSC to support student entrepreneurs from all disciplines.   
What's Your Idea for A Social Enterprise?  

On September  19 th EPICentre will host its inaugural  Libro-EPIC Social Enterprise Pitch Competition Anyone with a creative idea for a business with a goal to improve our community is free to apply before September  9 th 201 9 .   Winners of the competition will be accepted into the  Libro-EPIC Social Enterprise Program   - a 16-week accelerat or  program that awards participants up to $8,000.  
The Pitch Competition is for:  
  • Business ideas that are based in Windsor-Essex (it's okay to have a global impact) ;  
  • Social  e nterprises that h ave a social  and/or  environmental mission statement along with an idea to generate money ; and  
  • Founder (s)  must be eligible to work in Canada .

Faculty Entrepreneurship and Commercializations Lunch n' Learn series

EPICentre, in partnership with the Office of Research and Innovation Services (ORIS), hosts monthly Faculty Entrepreneurship & Commercialization Lunch n' Learn events to share the latest happenings in entrepreneurship and research commercialization space. Each month, we invite a different guest speaker to come and share his/her experiences in how he/she incorporates entrepreneurship in his/her course in the entrepreneurship stream. In commercialization stream, the guest speaker will share with the audience his/her business and how that business supports his/her research and vice versa. Read More
