NEWS & UPDATES
KinderCamp Gardeners
Members of our KinderCamps have been helping prepare, plant and maintain our new pollinator and vegetable gardens! They loved getting their hands dirty and had a blast watering everything! A little dirt and lots of water makes for tons of fun.  Check out these videos and photographs to see what they have been up to!!
Online Auction
Our 1961 Lakefield Auto Topper and 1957 71/2 Johnson Motor, both in mint condition, will be auctioned off. These are amazing pieces of Lake history and deserve a good home.

The boat is a simple 11’8” cedar strip fishing boat that, we are told, was made out of scrap material. It is historically significant because it was the last boat sold out of the Lakefield factory before Lakefield Boats Limited closed its doors. This information came from the original owner who received the boat as a Christmas present from his parents. We even have the original bill of sale!

The only part of the boat that has been touched up is the bottom paint which was applied about 15/16 years ago. Other than that, it’s an original!!
The Peterborough area factories produced ‘car’ or ‘auto’ toppers for decades. They were very light and designed to be transported on car roof racks.

The Topper is powered by a 1957 Johnson outboard motor. It even has a spare cowling that can be used for showroom purposes if the one on the motor ever gets marked up.
If you would like to participate in our auction visit campkawartha.ca/auction to make your bid on this amazing set. Starting bid on this amazing set, valued at $5,000.00 CDN, is only $2,500.00 CDN. Get your bid in!

Thank you to Prior Smith for donating the set to us! The proceeds will help kids attend Camp Kawartha and participate in our award winning environmental programs.
Birchcliff Property Owners Association hosts AGM
The BPOA hosted their Annual General Meeting on Saturday, August 10 th at Camp Kawartha. Elections of Directors and a review of the activities of the past year were both on the agenda. Camp Kawartha Board Chair, Jason Huffman, and Executive Director, Jacob Rodenburg were on hand and were delighted to receive a cheque from the BPOA supporting our operations.
Camp Kawartha Hosts a Shoreline Naturalization Planting Party!
On Saturday, August 17 th, over 30 volunteers and staff planted over 1,300 flowers, shrubs, and grasses along our shoreline. This project was led by The Environment Council of Stoney, Clear and White Lakes whose mandate is to preserve and enhance the sustainability of the area watershed.

These plantings will help stabilize Camp Kawartha's waterfront area and help prevent soil erosion. It will be a stunning space and a fantastic teaching tool, illustrating for Lake cottagers and residents how to shore up their shorelines with Mother Nature in mind. A second phase in 2020 will add trees.

This is an amazing addition to our shoreline and offers us significant opportunity to share the process and outcomes with our campers and area residents.” commented Jacob Rodenburg, Executive Director. “ We are grateful to the Environment Council, particularly Lois Wallace, Rob Little and Bill Ratcliff for their leadership in making this a reality. I would also acknowledge our funders – Rob & Penny Little; Carol & Ralph Ingleton; The Ontario Wildlife Foundation; The Stony Lake Heritage Foundation; and Helen Batten of Basterfield & Associates.

If you are interested in finding out more, you are welcome to attend the Environment Council’s Workshop set for Sunday, September 22 nd from 2:00 until 4:00
Please RSVP to Lois Wallace at tina.warren@mac.com
