Meet Ashley Lucyk, Prevention Coalition Coordinator
Where did you grow up?

Born and raised in Pompton Lakes, NJ. I graduated from Pompton Lakes High School in 2012.

When did you start working for the Borough of Pompton Lakes?

July 2018

Coalition Coordinator Ashley Lucyk (right)
What are your primary duties?

As the Coalition Coordinator, I am responsible for the coordination of the Pompton Lakes Municipal Alliance, Drug Free Communities (DFC) grant and other coalition grants that the town is awarded. It is up to me to ensure that all requirements of the Pompton Lakes DFC grant are met. I coordinate monthly coalition meetings, and produce the agenda and minutes. I continually work on building capacity and expanding the coalition’s involvement in the community. I ensure that current data and community trends are collected, analyzed, and utilized for coalition efforts, including the creation of and updating of the logic model and action plans of the Coalition. I promote coalition platforms via press releases, advertising, media, flyers, community events, and other means deemed beneficial for increasing awareness. I coordinate and conduct parent/youth/community presentations as needed on behalf of the coalition. I attend trainings and meetings as needed or required as the Coalition representative from Pompton Lakes and manage special projects (such as Sticker Shock campaign, TIPS trainings, etc.) for the coalition. Lastly, I conduct Town Hall meetings on specific focuses (Underage Drinking, Prescription Drugs, Marijuana, or Vaping) annually or as outlined by grant requirements.

From the Shade Tree Commission: Emerald Ash Borer Warning!
Borough of Pompton Lakes Urges Residents to Be On the Lookout for the Tree-Killing Emerald Ash Borer.

Pompton Lakes, NJ - As this invasive pest can easily spread to neighboring trees, all residents should check their ash trees for symptoms of infestation.

“The emerald ash borer will kill 99 percent of all ash trees within the next few years,” said the New Jersey Department of Agriculture. “Residents should identify ash trees on their property and monitor for signs of damage or decline such as unusual woodpecker activity or missing bark.”

Information regarding the Emerald Ash Borer can be found on our website.

Since the discovery of emerald ash borer in Michigan in 2002, the beetle has killed hundreds of millions of ash trees in North America. In May 2014, the New Jersey Department of Agriculture confirmed New Jersey’s first detection of the emerald ash borer in Bridgewater in Somerset County, NJ.

The emerald ash borer is a small, metallic green, non-native invasive pest. Trees can be infested for years before the tree begins to show symptoms of infestation. Symptoms include canopy dieback, woodpecker activity, missing bark, D-shaped exit holes, shoots sprouting from the trunk, and S-shaped larval galleries under the bark.
If a tree is already infested or in poor health, it may be best to remove the tree before it becomes infested and poses a hazard to people and surrounding structures. But for those residents with high-value ash in good health, trees can be treated before they become infested.

A Certified Tree Expert can help residents evaluate, then treat or remove ash trees. Contact the Board of Certified Tree Experts at 732-833-0325 [email protected] for a list of professionals serving your area.

Community ShareCam Program
Community Share Cam is a community safety program instituted by the Pompton Lakes Police Department which allows both residents and businesses to partner with the PLPD in the fight against crime throughout the Borough. Simply by registering YOUR home or business surveillance system with the Pompton Lakes Police, YOU can be an invaluable asset in solving crimes in your neighborhood.
When a crime occurs in your neighborhood, the Pompton Lakes Police will call on YOU and request a copy of YOUR video footage. This footage will help establish leads, identify suspects and save valuable investigative time. All registered camera locations are stored in a secure database and are entered into our Records Management System allowing the PLPD to map out locations of cameras throughout the Borough. Community ShareCam DOES NOT provide the Pompton Lakes Police with direct access to YOUR surveillance system. Residents and businesses will only be contacted by the PLPD in the event of a crime occurring in the area of your camera coverage.

Natural Gas Reminder

This is a reminder to all residents and businesses to call 9-1-1 immediately if they should smell the odor of natural gas inside or around their homes or businesses. While Public Service Gas Company generally responds in a timely manner, they always call the fire department as well to respond to your call. Time is of the essence in matters like this. Your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors DO NOT detect natural gas or propane. It is important to get the necessary response agencies en route as quickly as possible to test for natural gas and correct or secure the problem if there is one.
