Dear (Contact First Name),

Summer is a busy time for everyone. Since June we completed the move to our new office space at College of DuPage and welcomed Danielle Schneider as the Program Coordinator. Danielle will be providing general assistance to tutors, coordinating new tutor training and improving the overall efficiency of the volunteer program. Danielle can be reached at 630/924-5212 or dschneider@literacydupage.org.   Carol Garcia continues to work with tutors and their learners to ensure that they have adequate support for learners to achieve their goals.  Carol’s direct number is 630/384-9678 or cgarcia@literacydupage.org. And lastly, Karen Fuist retired as a tutor trainer and Peer Tutor Mentor Facilitator. Karen’s valued expertise and ability to train others will be missed.  Happily Karen continues to work as a tutor with her learner Christian.

Thank you for your commitment and support to your learner and to helping Literacy DuPage achieve its mission.

Best wishes from all of us at Literacy DuPage.

Easy Reading:
Labor Day

Labor Day comes on the first Monday in September. It celebrates workers’ rights.
Labor Day started out as a day celebrated by labor unions. The first one was held on September 5th, 1883, in New York. The idea may have come from celebrations held in Canada every year.

From 1884 onward, Labor Day was celebrated the first Monday in September.
Many States made it an official holiday. In 1894, it became a national holiday.

Now, everyone in the U.S. celebrates Labor Day. Since it’s always on a Monday, many people have a long weekend. Usually the weather is still warm, so picnics and barbecues are popular. In many places, children go back to school the day after Labor Day. People think of it as the end of summer, just as Memorial Day marks the beginning of summer. Many people also think about what workers now have, and what they still want.
