UNITED COUNTRY WESTERN DANCE COUNCIL NEWSLETTER
 AUGUST 2019
Highlights
“It’s all started with a movie…” - National Teacher’s Association - NTA ®
“It’s all started with the success of the movie Urban Cowboy in 1980” remembers Kelly Gellette, NTA’s current President. At the same time, C.W. Parker put the National Teacher Association together, as a nonprofit organization which promotes Country Western dancing. C.W. Parker became the President, Dave Getty VP, Mike Haley Treasurer, and Kelly Gellette was Secretary & newsletter editor. As the movie was taking off; every single bar in the USA had a dance instructor teaching a few line dances & Two Step. Quickly the founding members realized that very few of these teachers were knowledgeable and so…came the NTA and the Rules .
China Dance Camp - July 2019
For three days in July 2019, UCWDC ® in partnership with China Line Dance Promotion Centre organized a Dance Camp in Hangzhou, south of Shanghai.

After the success of the first UCWDC competition event in November 2018, and in preparation of the upcoming second “China Open International Line Dance Competition” scheduled for November 11, 2019; the local team wanted to train their teachers and coaches on UCWDC fundamentals and Country Dance technique.

Keith Armbruster – our President and Clive Eaton-Stevens – our Line Dance Committee Chairman; both Examiners on the Judge Certification Program went to China for a special Dance Camp.
The camp, organized over 3 full days, was based on the UCWDC’s Fundamental Dance Curriculum for Line material. From the host side, thirty-one national teachers and coaches were able to attend the entire program.

Make the Judges Happy! Fabulous Footwork…A Must!

A great smile, personality that matches the dance, detailed grooming all are important aspects of
competition but if your footwork is not pristine, it will put a damper on just about everything else! Let’s
take a closer look!
A house is only as strong as its’ foundation! When building a house, we dig deep to ensure the
foundation is solid and it will be strong! The judges are looking for a strong foundation which starts
from the floor and your footwork is the key. Great footwork is a lifetime goal! We are always working
to develop our footwork and use our feet and ankles correctly depending on the dance. It is never too
early or too late to include this important focus in your practice regiment! . ( continue to full article )

New Motions! New Countries!

New Motions are coming! This year we introduced Samba as our newest motion and it has been well received by the dancers! As our competition Line Dancesport has evolved from country to social to a Dancesport form, so must we evolve and offer new motions.
