About The Book

Five For Freedom, is the tale of five boys, members of the 1941 Iowa state basketball championship team, as they take part in the world-wide conflagration that began at Pearl Harbor and ended in Tokyo Bay. Michael's writing is classified as historic fiction; very real events synthesized into the persona of one individual... or, in this case, five friends who fight for our liberties.

About the Author:

Michael Eckers has been writing, & publishing his  own works, for more than a decad e now. He has also  been speaking on American history for nearly thirty  years, presenting hour long talks in more than  forty of the United States & nearly twenty foreign countries. Prior to authoring seven books, Michael
retired after a career as a Postmaster & four years in the United States Navy, the Vietnam War Era. Michael & his wife of "forty-plus" years reside in Naples seasonally, in the off-season they travel around the country, speaking & meeting others who celebrate the freedoms we enjoy.

THANK YOU!
Joanne Tailele

Joan Peppe
for organizing our July 8
"Grabbing the Reader" Workshop!
Although it was for members only,   all participants seemed to be happy with the results. We learned a lot about why we need to "Grab the Reader" in 500 words or less, as well as how to accomplish that task. All were surprised at the insight we gained and grateful for the opportunity to help each other write better.
COMING ATTRACTIONS:
SEPTEMBER 9, 2020 MEETING
WE WILL BE BACK AT OUR REGULAR MEETING PLACE ON MARCO ISLAND, MACKLE PARK COMMUNITY CENTER, 6 P.M.

Hand underlining Reminder with red marker on transparent wipe board.

We will write and critique each others' Elevator Pitches, also known as Log-Lines. They are termed Elevator Pitches  because it is something everyone is asked when they say they are writing a book, and especially if it is a potential agent you've cornered in an elevator! Having the right answer handy is important to start promoting whatever it is, a book, an article, a play. It can also be used as a very rough outline BEFORE you write, something to keep you on track with your tale.

Please download and print this document, complete the blanks, and bring the finished product with you to the meeting.  Click here to download templates

JUST OUT !! - MOMS GONE, NOW WHAT?
by our very own MERSHON NIESNER

In MOM'S GONE, NOW WHAT?
Mershon shares her own early loss story, along with advic e from over 50 daughters, giving readers a broad perspective of loss through early death, homicide, abandonment, and Alzheimer's. Readers come away with the inspiration to move forward, and the compassion for the experiences of others.

Another of our very own members, Virginia Read, inspired  Mershon to write the book using her experience as  a Certified Life Coach, Child Welfare Social Worker, marketing entrepreneur, and  freelance writer. Mershon's Ask the Life Coach column appears regularly in the Coastal Breeze newspaper. Her blog  Mother Loss Blog  is read by followers from around the world.  For more information about Mershon, her book, and author Zoom events, visit

Melinda VanLone. Are you an indie author about to create or commission a cover? If so, most likely you'll be using images to design your latest best seller.
