In Memory of Former
FD Chief Paul White
Former City of Jacksonville Fire Chief, Paul White, passed away on September 28, 2020 at the age of 72.

Chief White served the Jacksonville Fire Department for six years: 2008 - 2014. Before coming to Jacksonville, Paul retired from the Houston Fire Department as a District Chief. He would later serve as a Fire Chief for the cities of Tyler, Irving, San Angelo, Tyler again, and then eventually Jacksonville.

Current Jacksonville Fire Chief, Keith Fortner, commented upon the news of Chief White's passing: "Chief White brought a certain level of sophistication to the department. He arranged for all Firefighters to be equipped with a Class A uniform, which are military style formal suits to be worn on special occasions. We didn't understand the importance of this at the time, but would come to appreciate this as we found ourselves clothed in them for situations ranging from funerals to celebratory occasions. Chief White was very involved in the community and developed a strong relationship that would serve as a foundation for future growth. We are all very proud of the legacy that Chief Paul White left with the Fire Department and will greatly miss him."
New Paramedic - John Velez
JFD welcomed Paramedic John Velez to the department in September.

Velez was an EMT with UT in Tyler for four years before coming to work in Jacksonville. "I am excited to come to work every day for such a welcoming community," said Velez.

Welcome to Jacksonville, John!
LAKE JACKSONVILLE
Public & Community Services installed the new, updated Lake Jacksonville and Recreation Area sign to welcome visitors to our lake and concession area.
Buzzard Relocation Scheduled
In an effort to relocate the buzzards from the concession area at the lake, the City is cooperating with Texas Parks and Wildlife with the use of flash bang cartridges and launchers in order to encourage the buzzards to move onto a new home.

The start date of this plan is set for Monday, October 5th around sunset. These measures would continue each evening around sunset until a dramatic decline in the number of buzzards are noticed.
